Grygo, who hailed from Erie, Penn sylvania, was nick-named "the Erie Elf." lie came to Carolina when foot ball was at .its lowest ebb in years, and his ability greatly helped to put the Carolina team back on its feet. It was he who scored a sensational 75 yard run in the Carolina-Clemson game of 1940, acclaimed by many one of the finest plays of the season. In that sane game, he carried the ball for the first touch-down against the Tigers. His brilliancy was further shown by The Birds sensational wins over Penn State, over Kansas State, and over the University of Miami in the high light year of 1941.
