Leadersfiip-Fraternity To Elect New Members One Hundred Points Are Necessary For Membership In ODK-Guest Presildent Jimmy Guest of Omicron Delta Kappa, honorary leader ship fraternity, announced today that a formal meeting of the fra tErtiity to elect and consider new members will be held next Tuesday afternoon at a o'clock in Mr. Ralph Lewis' office. EXPE RT CLEANING AND DYEING Just a few steps off of th campus Plans For Two USC Buildings Cost $300 Mills, Clark Designed Rutledge, Desaussure Robert Mills and Richard Clark received $150 each in the early nine teenth century for their plans of the college which were accepted by the Board of Trustees, according to Dr. E. L. Green of the ancient lan guages department of the Univer sity of South Carolina. It was first intended to have one long build ing with two wings, similar to Rut ledge College, but the trustees de cided to have two buildings, one on each side of the campus 300 feet apart; thus, the plans were formu lated for constructing Rutledge and DeSaussure Colleges. The trustees then decided that the University needed a steward's hall, because many of the students were living in hotels where bars and liquors were too prevalent. Mr. Clark was selected as the contractor and the first steward's hall was erected on the site of the present day Harper College. At the same time, Mr. Clark was also building the first court house in Columbia. Mr. Mills, who has received much of the credit for the plans of the University, studied architecture in Washington and came to South Carolina as the State Architect and Minor Office Law Federation ...... Leadership Frat To Help Graduates Get Suitable Jobs 'Service Fraternity Has Scholarship Fund To Give Students Aid Mrs. William Scott (Meta Turn er), a former Carolina student, has contributed $ioo to the Alpha Kappa Gamma Scholarship fund. This fund has been maintained for several years for students needing financial assistance. Members of AKG have taken as one of their projects for the year as sistance to the government in finding girls for vital jobs. Installation of new officers will be held Wednesday night at the home of Mrs. J. Riotn McKissick. Officers to be installed are: Betty Jane Ever ette, president; Joyce Hetzel, vice president ; Jaudon Harley Piper, secretary; Ann Floreshiemer, treas urer; Isobel McCants, scholarship chairman; and Cele Roberts, his toriain. Davis can always be lured into an oration on one of his two pet subjects, Fairfield County or the University history. Dr. Davis was born in Winns. boro, S. C., in what is now the Mt. Zion Institute building. He was one of six children. His father taught school there until he accepted a professorship In teaching history at the University. The fatily moved " to Columbia where Dr. Davis ab sorbed much of the college atmos phere around him. He attended the city schools and graduated from Carolina in 1898. Ie also received his Masters at Carolina and later did graduate work at the Univer sity of Chicago. When Dr. Davis dismisses his classes, his students can not only give the exact definition of an in finitive, but can discuss Latin and Greek 'derivatives, etiquette, South Carolina culture, and the customs and traditions of the University. lie has the knack of weaving spe cial anectodcs about outstanding past members of the campus, his present associates, and his former students, between assignments. But best of all Dr. Davis enjoys a good healthy joke on himself. If the Chamber of Commerce of Fairfield County ever had an under cover man, it would be Dr. Davis. He doesn't hesitate a minute in de claring it to be the garden spot of South Carolina, even to its deepest gully. Many a rash feud with some Chester or Union County student has been fought verbly to a draw within his domain. This, according to Dr. Davis makes the individual proud of and loyal to his own na tive section of the state. Even with the stepped up ac tivities the University maintains, Dr. Davis still finds time for his q writing and gardening and especially a good word for his favorite State -South Carolina.
