Ihe Budget Commission reduced that amount by 10 per cent as it did in the case of other State insti tutions of higher education. Then the Commission deducted $41,207. 60. representing the principal and interest for the year on University bonds which. beginning Jan. 1 will be paid by the State Sinking Fund Commission under an act of the 1943 legislature. This amount was heretofore paid from University fund:. The Commission made sim ilar deductions in the appropriations of other State institutions of higher education. The announced purpose of the Commission in reducing appropri ations is to build up a reserve of State funds and to prevent a future deficit. The yardstick for reduction was r applied equally -nd fairly to all the State institutions of higher educa tion, President McKissick was in formed. Personnel Changes Made In Naval Unit-Needham Changes in the executive person nel of the Naval Training Unit at the University of South Carolina have been announced recently by Capt. R.-C. -Needhatt;-emnmandant of the Navy V-12 unit at the Uni versity. Lieut. Commander J. W. WVl1ite, who has been on duty with the Naval ROTC unit sin,ce its incep tion here in 1940, was detached on Friday, 1)ec. 31, and ordered to sea duty. Chief Ship's Clerk J. C. Hall, who has also been with thd Naval ROTC unit since its organization, has been detached and ordered to an aviation training station at Jack sonvillc, FLa. New members of Navy personnel art: 1.ieut. Connander T. R. Lev erett. retired United States Navy, who has reported recently for duty as executive officer, and Lieut. (j.g.) W. E. Irvin, USNR, who ar rived Jaun. 3' ior duty with the Naval ROTC unit. * Tlwo new Waves have also been n added to the personnel of the Naval TIraining Unit. Mary S. Sterchak, storekeepier 3rd class, reports from the Naval Training Station for Storekeepers at Bloomington, Ind. and has been assigned to the dis bursing office. Sara R. Sparks, yeoman 3rd class, comes from the U. S. Naval Air Station at Glencoe, Gai. andl is on duty in the personnel office. Both are natives of Pennsyl vamia. KSKLeadership Frat. To Hold Banquet Feb. 3 SAt a recent meeting of KSK, honorary leadership fraternity, lans wecre mtade for a banquet to be held February 3. The banquet, which is to lie semi-iormal, will be held fronm 8 to 11. l'residing over the banquet as muaster of ceremioies w ill be Jimmy Guest. The speaker of the evening will lbe D)r. llarry Clark. Dr. 'Ctlark, a member of the faculty of the Extension D)ivision has gained wide recognition as a leturer. GirlsToReserve RoomsFeb.1-10 Town Girls May Put Names On Waiting List Mrs. Arney R. Childs, dean of women at the University of South Carolina, has made announcements concerning the procurement of rooms in Sims College for the Mareb semester. Out-of-town girls may reserve rooms during Feb. 1 15 by depositing $5. Columbia girls cannot reserve rooms until Feb. 10, in order to give the first chance to the girls from outside Columbia who depend on the dormitories for places to stay. It was expected that the number of girls applying for rooms in Sims would be smaller next semester, because of February graduation and the fact that few South Carolina high schools have mid-year gradu ation. However, there has already been an unusually large number of applications, many of them from northern girls who will graduate from high school in February. The following announcement was issued by Mrs. Childs, concerning room-reservations for the spring-se mester. 1. From February 1st to Febru ary 10th I shall open lists to out of town students now resident in the three biuldings to reserve rooms for the March term. 2. Pay $5.00 fee to the Treasurer and bring receipt to my office to make reservation. 3. Columbia girls must wait until March 15 to come into any build ing but may put their names on' a vaiting list February 1st. They do not have to pay a reservation fee. All Columbia girls now in the build ings must move out before Febru ary 26th. 4. No freshmen in llampton or WVauchope may move into Sims. U~pperclassmnen in Wauchope may fill vacancies in Sims and freshmien in W~auchope may till vacancies in Hampton, if they so desire. If it .is necessary in order to place new freshmen, upper class students in Wauchiope may have to move into Sims. 5. Present occupant oi auny room has an option on the room until February 10th except seniors gradu ating in February. 6. Rooms now occupied by Feb ruary graduates or Columbia girls may be reserved in thle order of ap plication on or after February 1st. 7. If possible, I hope to hate 110 more thani two girls in any room for the spring and sumumer terms. Make your plans accordlingly but1 be prepared fur in a room if necessariy. 8. After February 10th 1 shall bec ginl to place new students in rooms not yet reserved. Post Office Mrs. Moon, University post nistress, wishes to. remind stu dents to put their box numbers on their mail, 'and to tell their1 correspondents to do so also. Says Mrs. Moon, "I want to thank the students for their re sponse to our plea. Most of them have done so, but a few still have not.
