Banners waving here ant spirit with "Beat hell out of C (Wks." Tonight. is the eve of the Sou Carolina-Clemson grid battle. -will be on baud at the CarolinE forty-first Gamecock-Tiger tuss nation's oldest and most historic The war has played no favorites ind this grid series. l.ast year, the Game cocks saw many of their stars leave to join the armed forces, while the Clemson ROTC status kept the Tiger sttiad intact. This year. the bright side ha, flashed ont. the Gamecock camp. Carolina. a Naval school. is taking advantage of their Naval trainees in building the Gamecock squad. Clemson, due to Army regu lations. is unable to use its Army A-12 trainees. One telling blow to the Gamecocks is the fact that this is exam week. The boys have been in a huddle with te\tlbooks for a week now with only sparse practice now and then. Armchair quarterbacks have been giving the nod detinitely to the Game cocks, but with the announcement that Mlarion "Butch" Butler. star Tiger back. may enter the game, some may give-Clemson an even chance. Butler -%as recently inducted into the army and is now on furlough. The Tigers have managed to hold the heavy end of the scoring so far in the rivalry. They have won twenty seven of the forty games. Carolina will be gunning for its thirteenth vic tory totnorrow. If the Gamecocks ring tip a victory tomorrow it will he their second in nine years. The Birds' last winning streak came from 1931 through 1933 w-hen Earl Clary, the Gaffney Ghost, held swsay. Clemson won last year 18 to 6 after the Gamecocks had rudely upset one of the best of all Tiger teams in 1941 by the score of 18-14. The Birds are reported in good con * dition for the tussle tomorrow. The G;amiecock line is almost invincible this y ear and should be able to bottle sip the Bengal ground attack with or without Hutler.
