University NYA Is Versatile In Work Many and variedl are the positions held by the J00 Carolina students in the University of South Carolina Division of the National Youth Ad m inistra ti oni. English Department Swamped With Work "Oh, heck, there's another onel" This ejaculation came from Dr. Havilah Babcock as he picked up a theme paper. The English department is re quiring more written work than ever this year, and the professors are up to their ears in work, read ing and correcting papers. Many glaring mistakes are evi dent in the students' work, but the professors still hope for the best in the days to come. With so much written material on hand, the English department doesn't have much time for play. If the students think they have a hard job writing, pity the poor teachers, who have to read 50 tc 100 papers a day, although some get a great deal of pleasure from the papers. The idea of having so many themes is to emphasize competence in the use of written and spoken English. One of the primary fac tors in modern life is the ability tc express onesself in writing. Y. M.
