In the elections Tuesday, Misses Vright and Farrell won the right to ompete in a runoff Thursday. All elections are being held one nonth earlier this year due to the nanges in the constitution. Dr. Sam Der rick, professor of economics. 'State expenditures were approximately 3,000,000 in 1917," says Professor Der rick. "In 1937 expenditures by the state wili aggregate between $19,000,000 and :20,000,000." Four reasons for the increase are given -y the economist: Establishment of new departments, in titutions, commissions and bureaus. Expansion of work already undertaken. Increases in salaries paid state officials is a result of added work and steadily ising price levels. State-support of county and district ac ivities.
