S. A E. V FRAT DEFEATS INDEPENDANTS Undefeated Teams Battle in Close and Hard-Fought Game Playing a smashing hangup running attack, S. A. E. broke loose for a 14-11 victory over the undefeated Independents of Taylor street Thursday night, to take the intermural championship. Taking the lead from the start, the frat men ran it up to 5-1 but the Taylor street gang had made it 5-4 by the half. The Independents never took the lead but stayed within one point of the S. A. E.'s practically the whole game. Several heartbreaking long shots were made by the Independents quint which hit the him only to bounce into the hands of the watchful Pope, tall S. A. E. center. Sanders and Powell seemed to be the only Taylor street men who could get their eye on the basket, although the whole team played a splendid floor game. McDougal and Fellers ran the frat men ragged, but couldn't reach the net. Tom\ my Scott, diminutive forward of the S. A. E. squad was the star attraction, playing marvelously on the defense and offense. Pope, McGee and Cantey also aided the frat greatly. Mr. Crawford awarded the winners a handsome silver engraved cup and eight individual medals as winners of the Intramural Basketball Tournament at U. S. C. for 1931.
