FRAT DEFEATS
INDEPENDANTS
Undefeated Teams Battle in Close
and Hard-Fought Game
Playing a smashing hangup running attack,
S. A. E. broke loose for a 14-11
victory over the undefeated Independents
of Taylor street Thursday night, to take
the intermural championship.
Taking the lead from the start, the
frat men ran it up to 5-1 but the Taylor
street gang had made it 5-4 by the half.
The Independents never took the lead
but stayed within one point of the S.
A. E.'s practically the whole game. Several
heartbreaking long shots were made
by the Independents quint which hit the
him only to bounce into the hands of the
watchful Pope, tall S. A. E. center.
Sanders and Powell seemed to be the
only Taylor street men who could get
their eye on the basket, although the
whole team played a splendid floor game.
McDougal and Fellers ran the frat men
ragged, but couldn't reach the net. Tom\
my Scott, diminutive forward of the
S. A. E. squad was the star attraction,
playing marvelously on the defense and
offense. Pope, McGee and Cantey also
aided the frat greatly.
Mr. Crawford awarded the winners a
handsome silver engraved cup and eight
individual medals as winners of the Intramural
Basketball Tournament at U. S. C.
for 1931.

in a sea of mud. The Birds won fi*st
place in two events and tied for first in
two others, but otherwise the S. I. A. A.

P. C. flash, ran remarkably for the home
team and shows promise of becoming a
star. He ran off easily with the 440 and

in the 100.
Carolina's best were Adair and DeVaughn,

Birds could garner.

Bryant Adair Chosen Alternate
Captain Of Team At Meeting
Of Twelve Lettermen
Cur ran Hughey was elected at a meeting
of twelve letter men last Tuesday to
captain the University of South Carolina
quintet for the 1931-32 court campaign.
Bryant Adair was chosen to act
as alternate captain.
Hughey is from Columbia, where lie
graduated from high school after distinguishing
himself as an athlete. Since
entering the University, lie has continued
to add to his enviable record. This past
football season Curran was alternate captain
of the football team. The state record
for shot putting is also held by
Hughey.
Bryant Adair entered the University at
the same time that Hughey did alter
graduating with him from Columbia
High. Bryant has played a sterling game
at tackle on the football team for the
past two seasons as well as playing the
pivot position for the Gamecock five.
Both Hughey and Adair are juniors
and three lettermen. They will return
next year along with ex-captain DuPre
and six other lettermen to form what
should be a strong quintet for next season.
