A MANY GIFTS ARE GIVEN LIBRARY |L MANY FRIENDS CONTRIBUTE F The library of the University of South Carolina is a treasure storehouse of rare and beautiful objects. Friends of the University are constantly adding to its store, and recently several valuable gifts have been made, according to R. M. Kennedy, librarian. A complete file from 1875 to 1897 of the Columbia Daily Register was presented by W. E. Gonzales, editor of The State. Mr. Gonzales had previously given the University a complete file of the Columbia Daily Phoenix. O. D. K., honorary fraternity, gave the library a handsomely framed copy of the seal of South Carolina, which matches the other gift of the fraternity to the library, a replica in wax of the seal of the Southern Confederacy. Mrs. Mary S. Cowans of Columbia gave a collection of authorized Christian Science publications. New books have been added to the equipment of the library, states Mr. Kennedy, and students spend much of their time in the reading room. Two dozen additional chairs have been ordered for the reading rooms and they will be delivered before Christmas.
