ZETA PHI CLUB RECEIVED INTO ZETA T. ALPHA GRAND PRESIDENT HERE Installation To Take Place First Four Days of Next Week Zeta Tau Alpha, national woman's fraternity which has granted to Zeta Phi club a charter, will be installed on the campus next week, March 4, 5, 6, and 7. Mrs. Howard Williamson Gard ner, Zeta Grand President, will come for the installation, and will be, assisted by Miss Margaret Glascow, a Z.T.A. from Hollins College and a graduate student at the University. Zeta Tan Alpha is the fifth national to come on the campus. the charter being granted at the national conven tion held in Washington in February. There are 56 active chapters, the Beta Psi chapter being the. 57th. Installation will begin with a recep tion at Zeta Phi House on Green street on Monday afternoon. Other so cial affairs of importance will follow later in the installation. H-ansen, faculty advisor, will be initiated with. tihe club, as will be Mrs. Mercer. usc PARTY GIVEN FOR PLAYMAKERS Susan Guinard Entertains At Home For Visiting Actors Miss Susan Guinard entertained at tea on last Wednesday afternoon at her home on Washington street several members of the cast of the Carolina Playmakers. 'Ihe ten was given in honor of Miss Helen Dortchi and( Neona Stqrgeon, who played important roles in the presentation by the Carolina Play makers. The guests present wvere memi bers of the Gamma Sigma club of the University, of which Miss Guinard :s a member. This was one of a series of enter tainments given in honor of the Play makers wvhile they were in Columbia. Delta Zetas Give Bridge Party Fri. The Beta Delta chapter of Delta Zeta gave a continuation bridge party Friday afternoon in their chapter room, from three to six, for their rushees. 'lhe room was artistically decorated with Kilarney roses and green ferns which carried out their sorority colors of rose and green. A delicious salad coirse was served. Minature rose- and green lamps, representing the sorority emblem, were given as fovors. Last Thursday night, the last of a series of finanre provrams was given by the Y.W.C.A. Miss Mildred Coie, treasurer of organization, gave an item ized account of every cent that had been spent by the organization this term. Of course the figures were not exact but she placed on the black board the budget; and, it is the policy of the "Y" to spend their money as nearly as pos sible according to this budget. Infoi-mai tion of this kind is very helpful, for if the girls know where the money is going~ they are more willing to make pledges. A fter the devotional and businien p)art of the meeting, the program was turnled over to the social commnittee. Vanilla and strawberry ice cream' and cakes were servedl. Before the members left each one was given a pledge card to fill out, stating the amount that she wouldl give and wvhen it would be pay able. -U.S.C. D. E. K.'S ENTERTAIN AT DINNER PARTY The local group of D. E. K., petition ing Kappa Delta entertained Friday night with a dinner party at the Ro.3e Mary tea room. Twenty two attend-ed the party. Hypatians Study Prominent Men McDuffie, Legare, Calhoun, But 11er And Others Are Discussed "Some interesting facts about prom inent South Carolinians" was the sub ject of the Hypatian literary society meeting Wednesday afternoon. The lives of men whose portraits were hang ing on the walls of the Clariosophic hall were discussed. Miss Sara Agnes Jackson told of the life of George McDuffie, famous orator, governor of South Carolina, and United States senator from the state, and of Hugh Swinton Legare, signer of the Declaration of Independance. Miss Clelia Black discussed the life of John C. Calhoun, a graduate of Yale, member of Congress, vice-president of the United States, and secretary of state in Tyler's cabinet. She gave interesting facts also about Thomas Cooper, who was imprisoned for libel under the sedi tion law. Miss Edna Wood spoke of Robe-t Henry, a graduate of the University of Edinburgh in 1814, and of Judge An drew Pickens Butler, who was circuit judge of South Carolina for cleve-i years, and of General Wade Ha.npton. Miss Antoinette Moore was r,teived into the society. The names of Misses Grace Smith, Rosalie Watson, Alice Owens, ant I Eli zabeth Phifer were put up and voted upon favorably. -U.s.c. CHI O'S FEED NEW MEMBERS Invade Rose Mary For Frolic, Dancing and Business Enjoyed The members of Chi Omega sorority entertained the new members of the chapter with 'a banquet Monday night, February 10, in the private dining room of the Rose Mary tea room. The tables were 'arranged in the form of a CHI (X). Red and white carnations, the flower of the sorority, were used for decoration. A dinner of five courses were serive:l. The menu consisted of fruit cocktail, Cream of tomato soup, fried chicken, rice, gravy, green peas, hot rolls and butter, tomato salad, and vani'.la ice cream with fresh crushed strawberries and cake. Gamma Sigmas Compliment Girls The Gamma Sigma club enitertained Fridlay afternoon at 4 o'clock in the clrk rooms, 1902 Pickens street, with a bridge party given in compliment to a group of girls just entering the Univer sity this semester. The tally cards bore unique George Washington designs and attractive paper caps in colonial style were given as favors. An ice course was served after cards.
