GAMIE BETWMEN TWO CAROLINAS ENDS SCORELESS Hard Fought Game Marked By kepeated 'unts but Touch downs Lacking MANY CAROLINA STARS I Frequent Fumles On Both Sides Cnused By Rainy Weather Playing on a rain-soaked field and splashing up and down the muddy grid iron, in a neck and neck race, with old Hoodoo 4 yards in the lead, the Caro lina Gamecocks were again held score less, while North Carolina's Tarheels were also busy shaping a goose egg in the melee last Saturday afternoon it Chapel Hill, which ended in a. 0-0 tie. Both Varsities, each trying to come out of a sirmp, made desperate efforts to put over a counter but in vain as Jupiter Pluvius barred the gateways to both scoring zones. They held each other and turned back all scoring threats but both lacked the touchdown punch. The wet pigskin cat.sed backs to slip down, balls to he fumbled ad(l passes to go in every direction but the one in tended. Before the game had hardly gotten under way. North Carolina had benle fitted by a fumble which gave the Tar- I heels the ball on the Hirds' 34-yard line. Carolina sufferted two penalties, Jackson of the Tarheels gained 10 yards in two 'plays and th'ngs began to look tough for the Gamecocks; but, at this point \\'liams recovered a fumble and Boineau punted out of dsnger. The North Carolina receiver let the ball gez ott of his grasp and Guarino fell on it. Another punt by loineau put the ball well in 'T'arheelia. Wimberly, who as usual was a big factor in South Carolina's play, ran back the second half kickoff 84 yards and looked for a time as if he had gotten away. The l'almetto supporters got their sersation as he sped on, weil assist ed by interferers, and the Tarheel fans got the'rs when Farris, who came from goodness-knows-where, downed him on the 12-yard line. An unfortunate pen alty set back the lird chance. and an interceptedi pass ruined it. He is ex pected to make a good bid for the con ference championship. Green, captain of last year's freshman team, Cardwell R'ley, Haltiwanger, and Yates, are also showing up well. Amoc,g the freshmen, Broughton seems to be the ortstanding candidate, oggeshall and Nettles are also expect ed to make strong bids for a place on the team.
