CLEMSON TEAM TO PLAY HERE ONJANUARY6 Players Given Orders to Practice at Ho;ne During the Holidays WHITE PLAYING WELL Captain Seideman Ready to Play -Rogers, and Others in Good Shape No varsity games will be played be fore the ho.idays. Coach Bocock has given his men orders to practice as much as possible during the Christmas vaca tion so they will be in shape to meet Clemson. 'lie Tigers come here on the seventh an4l eighth, and the mni will have little or no real practice before the game. This places the team in some what of an awkward position, for even if every p'ayer is able to get plenty of practice, the advantage of team-practice will be taken away. Probably Coach Bo cock wilh play as maly of the Columbia boys as he can, as they call work to gether in the gym. Captain Seideman is still nursing an injured leg, but is not thought bad o-iough to keep him out of the game. Hili Rogers is feeling fine and ready to go. "Buster" Holcombe is expected to show his old time form in slipping the spheroid through the iron hoops. It wili take a magician to decide which men are to hold the forward places. White, a freshman last year, has been playiMg center with Rogers and Hoi combe throwirg goals. "Monk" Clark can handle the ball and shoot on th^ style of Rogers, and he is certain to be given his chance, "Heinie" Fair distin guished himself by making sensational side-shots itst season, and he offers a strong bid for the team. Nolan and "Buster" Wise are two other "shooting stars.' Seideman is a magnificient guard and is an excellent shot. It is not known yet whether he will piay a stationary or mwiting guard. Jim Farr and Chand ler" will fight it out for the other place. Clemson trimmed the Birds last sea son. 38 to 35. It is tip to the Carolina basketeers to reverse the score and add a few points this time ! - U.S.C. -- Candidates Report for Rat Basketball 'lhe freshman basketball outlook at this toment is decidedly nebulous. Twenty or tIt'rty likely looking men have reported to Coach Stoney, but the adimidaice of fornmler high school star., which was much in evidence at the be ginning of last season is lacking this time. Eddie Pritchard, of L'nion college el'gible to play and will probably get a berth on the team. Jove of Sumter, who was a star tackle Ott thle "rat" foot ball team, is ouit for guard. L ambert. Stoddard, and M elton, look yood. Tlhere are p)lety of excellent p)rospects andl Stoney is boundt( to putt a smuoothly working machinoe ott the floor when the J1anutary3 seasont begins. Infirmary Crowded by Tenement Games "TIenemtent football is playing havoc with the boys", says Mrs. Madden, in firmtary matron. "I have had two case.s of broken collar- bones, andt a great numbher of sprainedh ankles and other injuries. A regular waiting line is for mteni at myW office after a tenement gamte." Mrs. Madldent further stated that there wvas less itnjtury to thte regular squtadl this year than tlhere was last year. Reports show thtat mtost of the a'l mients so far, have been colds andl ton silitis. Amtong the inmtates of the infirmary are: Misses Margaret Johnson, Mar guerite Green, Juliant Mongin. Margie Aswell; Messrs. William Gambell, J. A. Wells, B. H. Porter, Drufus Griffin, Haro!d Funderbturk and C. W. Garv'n. Records show that there has been 97 p)atients this term. Mrs. Madden states that those stu dents who ha-ve not taken medical ex amintation, wotuld have to be examinedl at their own expense, at the infirmary examination has closed. Pee Dee Team Loses to Yankee Gridders Sam Burke Takes Advantage of Fuinbled Punt and Runs for Touchdown Sam Burke's touchdown, following the recovery of a fumbled punt, was enough to bring victory to a Yankee team, in the game last Saturday with an eleven fron the Pee Dec sect'on. A good size crowd was out to see the contest. The Southerners were doped to win, and lacked only inches of tying the score when the end of the first half ruined their chance. For the first qua. ter, neither team showed an offensive drive and the game hade fare to end a scoreless tie. The Yankees made their only coun ter when Bill Cooper muffled a punt. Burke was on him and was going down the field before the Pee Dee team could stop him.. W-ndus missed his crop kick on the try for point. Excitement ran high toward the niddle of the game. Pee Dee got th^ ball within fifteen yards of the Yanke' goal. Bill Cooper made a beautiful run, the finest of the day, around left end, and was thrown almost on- the goal line. With only half a foot to go, anl ten seconds to play, someone on thr Pee Dee eleven called signals off and the first half was over before a play could be run. "Remember Sherman" was the battle cry of the Southernerns, but Sherman's men cont'nued to march. Not a sin gle point was registered in the last half. No one starred. The game wasn't so hot. Annual Proofs Shown Flinn Hall This Week Proofs of the annual p)ictulres which wvere taken by White's Studio about three weeks ago, were at Flinn hall all this wveek in the care of Miss B. V. Dallie, of the Wh'te Studio. Most of the students were p)rompt in rushing over to review their likenesses and great were the disappointments there of. It seems that there are not as many Apollos and Venuses on the cami pnts as was thought. TEAMS BATTLE FOR TENEMENT TITLE THIS P.M.
