NEWS CONCER OARTY FOR NEW GIRLS PLAN OF EUPHROSYNEANS "EVOLUTION" IN EVIDENCE Freshmen to Become-Full-fedged Seniors in Their Journeys From Room to Room Much fun is in store for the "she rats" at Carolina when the Euphroy sean party is given next Tuesday night. Things will commence "evoluting" in Melton Hall at eight o'clock, for the evening's entertainment is to be an "Evolution Party". The girls are to bt dressed as children and will "evolute" as they go from rooi to room. Enter first, the Freshman Room where lollypops and lemonade are to be served. Small gray "rats" and "green ribbons" will be found in plen ty. The little "rats" will play children's games. Leaving here, one finds the "Soph omore Room" next in order. It is to be a much more dignified place, and "Wise Owls" will be seen looking down upon "wise ole fools !" All this will be fine, but WAIT! freshmen until you get into the "Jun ior" Room. Its going to be enough to make you feel a real true "Jolly Jun ior" because plenty of ice cream and cake will be handed out. Following this the little "Rats" will have "evoluted" into the "Seniors" Room, where they mustput aside all of the "jolliness," "wiseness," and "greeness" and become a grand, dig nified old senior. Each will recieve a miniature diploma which will prophesy for them, the future. So, Freshmen girls, keep this in your mind and come, because all the girls are going to be there and want you. But don't forget to come as tho you were in your second-childhood. - U.S.C. - ENTERTAINMENT FOR NEW CO-EDS DISCUSSED Y-W.C.A. Meet& at Melton Hall For First Business Session , of Year Entertainment for the new coeds was discussed at the first meeting of the Y.W.C.A. in Melton Hall Mon day.Misses Elizabeth Lindsay and Ellen Hough were elected to take charge of preparations. A general discussion was held on programs, publicity ideas, and pledges for the year. A motion to change the time of the meetings failed to carry. Cabinet meetings will be held every other week. For the benefit of the co-eds who did not secure "Y" hand-books the officers and cabinet' of the Y.W.C.A. are listed. They are: Agnes Carson, president; Harriet Baker, vice-presi dent ; Virginia Wauchope, secretary; Eleanor Beasley, treasurer. After disposing of routine business, the club went into the discussion of election of new members. No names were poposed, it was decided to post pone nominations another week. The club intends to select from among the new coeds those who will make steady workers. At the conclusion of the busines ses sion, Miss Elizabeth Lindsay, hostess for the afternoon, served refreshments. The club adjourned after a half hour social. NING~ ~SIM IMPORTANT SESSION Women Elect Oficers for Term Discuss Plans of Year's Work Plans for the years work and elect ion of officers were completed by the Athene Club at its first meeting Satur day night. Officers of the club are: Marguerite Johnson, of Allendale, president; Mar garet McColl, of Florence, vice-presi dent; Mary Carter Barnwell, of Florence, secretary and treasurer. - U.s.c. MISS KILLINGSWOR'TH HYPATIAN PRESIDENT Election H4eld Wednesday After noon in Melton Hall-4nter Society Debate Planned The Hypatian Literary Society held its first -meeting Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock in Melton Hall for the purpose of electing officers for the new term. As the former president graduated last June the vice-president, LeRhea Counts, took charge of the meeting. Martha Killingsworth was elected president for the term, Virginia Goff, vice-president; Miriam Greever, secretary and treasurei; Miss Julienne Mongin, recorder and Mil dred Davis, monitor. The marshall will Je appointed lazter by the .president,. Officers will be installed next Wednes day aternoon. By the vote of the society a committee was appointed to confer with members of the Euphrosynean Society concerning the possibility of an inter-society debat ing team this year. Many suggestions were brought out for interesting new girls and old non-society members to become members of some society. It was decided that the Hypgtian Society codrially invite all girls in the University who are not members of one of the so cieties to attend an informal reception next Wednesday afternoon in the Eu phradian Hall from 4:30 to 6 o'clock. - U.S.C. - DEAN DILLARD CALLS FIRST HOUSE MEETING At the first house meeting at the Wo. man's College Tuesday evening, Dear Dillard read the rules of the House and discussed them for the benefit of the new girls. The system used at the Wo man's College was clearly explained. Wardens were assigned on each wing on each floor to assist in maintaining quietness after 7:30. Those named as Wardens are: Misses Maude Morris, Lil lie Baker, Ellen Hough, Annie McGill, Ida Johnston, Edred Trutsdale, and Ruth L,angfelder. An interesting- program was carried out, consisting of the best speakers the University afforded. Clyde WIhite, president, called the meeting to order making a short address. to the new men. First and foremost among the speakers introduced was the president, Dr. V. D. Melton, who was himself a Clariosophic. Wr. Melton spoke on "The Value of a Literary Society." H'e brought out in his speech, the change of style of speak ers of today and of past years. He end ed his speech with an appeal to the new men to join a society. Professor E. Marion Rucker, Judge Whaley and Professor Crow continued somewhat on the same theme of Dr. Melton's talk. Professor Yates Sno*den gave an interesting talk on the value of the records of the society. Several old students gave short talks, among them were J. E. Hankins and Dohald 'Russel, R. M. Smith. Smokes and ice cream were served at intervals during the program and the happy smiles shown between clouds of smoke, by both old men and freshmen were proof enough that the occasion was enjoyed by all. - U.S.C. - CO-ED FROSH RULES , DRAWN UP BY. SOPHS Miss Ida Johnston Presides At Meeting-Miss Dillard Co-operates Rules for the freshmen in the woman's building were drawn up this week by the sopomores in the dormitory. The meeting was held ing the cafeteria, and was presided over by Miss Ida Johnston of Florence, president-elect. Plans for the activities of the year were discusseed. Dean Dillard gave a their co-operation last yea rand bring ig out some valuable suggestions for future work. A committee was appointed to draw up suggestions for the new students.
