.OOKING BACK A WEEK IN FOOTBALL Interest in Championship Race 4 at High Pitch-Fair Week Games Have Bearing (By Jay Em Bee) The big doings this past week in the football realms in South Carolina were (if course the ganes at the state fair. The high school game on Tuesday and the twio i.iiter-collegiate classics on Wediesday anid Thursday attracted wide attention. Of the state teams Furman had the hardest task (if them all, as the sched tile and the showings made by the teams which the Purple Hurricane meet this week would indicate. After playing Davidson here \\ednesday the Laval outfit have only a brief breathing spell and then will hie to Richmond, Va., to tackle Richmond college on Saturday. Carolina. Cleimsi and Davidson will not play Saturday after their strenuous games, but it lust be remembered that Carolina has abott is big a 'harrier later in the seas.:i, when the Birds meet the Citadel at the Orangeburg fair on November 15 atd then come hack to Columbia to meet Washington and Lee oin the 17th. This, too, fol lows the battle with Furman on Nov ember 10. Two other inter-collegiate Co,ntess which will attract no little interest are the Newberry-\WofTord encounter at Newberry today and the Citadel - Presby teriani meeting on Saturday at Clinton. 1rskine, the eighth college in the Pal metto group is ntit booked, according to the advance schedule. Of course football fans were doubly interested in tie Carolina-Clemson game, first and foremost because of its high standing of long years ini the gridiron annals in South Carolina and also because it is to have a strong hearing on the state championship, which has had added interest in recent years. IHowever, all the interest was not cen tered oi the Gomecock-Tiger contest, although it is expected that there will be a few thoughts, speaking in terms of football, after the decision of that bat tIe and the Furmuan-Davidson setto is compared with other collegiate results.
