"Oh. iothiig much. \Vhat did you (1? You are looking fine; vacation Must have agreed with you." Such are the greetings that we have bcen hearirg oil the campus durilg the lat few days. They m.ay sound trite and cmllonmlnplace to an1 outsider but we know there is much more meant th.an has beenl said. We have but left Mll hoein and come )ack to another; we have come back to our friends-of the student body, of the faculty, and of Columbia; we have come back to our University and although our words of welcome may be commonplace the spirit behind them is fiot. Tonight our welcomes to the iew men and our rendwals of friendship with the old culminates i.n College Night. To the old students this means a strengthening and revival of "College Spirit". To the new students it will be a novelty, a gramid display of "pcp"; but it will mean the awakening of their "College Spirit." To all it ought to ieati a determination to stick together and push every activity that goes to make a "Greater Carolina." An(I a "Greater Carolina" is not made mit (if athletics, or studies, or the Y. .\. C.. No, this isn't my University; I've come back to the wrong place." That's about the way some of us feel when we walk on the campus and see the many changes that have been wrought while we were back on the farin or out selling books or loafing around this summer. Rooms cleaned up, calcimined, and furnished with good substantial furniture; new dor mitories being built; classroom build ings painted in pleasing colors; and --well, it's a great change. "Hut things won't be looking nice so very long," someone complains. Yes, that is in a way true. The out side of the buildings will be beaten by the weather and the finish that is oil themn now will not be there al ways. liut where the greatest dam age is done is usually on the inside protected fron the weather. but opel to the Carelessness of the stiu dents.
