The New Sport "Say, what is that those boys are doing over there ?" "They are pitching horseshoes." Yes, the campus has gone crazy over horseshoe pitching. The only fault to be found is that the faculty is not tak ing to the game as rapidly as was ex pected. Some young lad had read an account of the horseshoe tournament held down in Sunny Florida the other day. He read further and found that a fifteen-year-old lad was the winner of the national title. Being an energetic young fellow, he thought that with a little practice lie would challenge this victor to a match and probably walk off with the coveted crown. He could not play by himself. At last he decided that he would take his roommate into the scheme, but he thought again. He remembered that he could not play this game in his room because it was not large enough. At last they decided to adjourn to gardens around the old president's house. The horseshoes and sticks were secured and a game was started. <A These young lads had not played many minutes before the entire personnel of the Bats Club came pouring out of the :3 windows. They looked on in amazement for a few seconds but quickly caught the idea of the thing. Alex Murdaugh, the great football player, was the first to join in. He was followed by "Dick" Spenser. These two made some pair and quickly ran off with the honors. The next (lay everybody was playing the game. If you could not find a fellow in his room all you had to do was to look around the corner and there he was play ing. Tle point to this is simple. The poor chap, with the desire to meet the cham pion, has been beaten so badly that he has quit the game and gone back to his studying. Chanticleer Club Meets. The Chanticleer Club held its second meeting for March Tuesday night at the home of Charles Fishburne, in Shandon. The meeting was called to order by President Thorne Sparkman, and after the miscellaneous business had been dis pensed with the program for the evening was carried out. This consisted of a paper on "Thie Theory of Evolution," which was read by Mr. Ralph Ramsey and proved to be very interesting. A heated discussion on "Evolution" fol lowed that all of the members of the club participated in. After the program had been completed a delightful salad course and refreshments were served. Miss Mary Fishburne was kind enough to favor the members of the club with several piano and vocal solos. The next meeting will be on the third of April at the home of Mr. Wells, on Hampton street. Ravenel Biological Club Holds Interesting Meeting The Ravenel Biological Club held a very interesting meeting on Thursday night. March 15th. Tihe program con .isted of a very heated debate, the sub ject for discussion heing "The Inheritance )i Acquired Characters." The affirm ative was represented by the Rev. J. 0. Van Meter, Mr. G. W. Collier and Mr. R. C. Cobb. Tihe negative wa's upheld by Miss Mary Miller. Mrs. Eug-nia Salley Gibbes and Miss Carnes. Many interest ing points were made, atid at times the debators waxed eloquent. The judges for the debate were Dr. A. C. Moore, Mrs. F. S. Munsell and Mr. T. E. Coleman. The decision was in favor of the affirm ative. After the debate Prof. Corring ton gave a talk on "The Biology of Twins." Names of Nominees for Easter Queen. The Social Cabinet of the University desires that all the names of nominees for the Easter Queen be turned in to the cabinet not later than April Ist. Anyone wishing to nominate a young lady for this honor may do so by writing the name of the nominee on a slip of paper and handing it to some member of the social cabinet.
