The Game With Centre. (Continued from Page One) bunk, may well be laid aside. The bald fact is that we are going to meet Centre College on an even footing and that if she expeots to get away with that game on Turkey Day she will have to play the very best brand of foot ball that she knows-and then some. The Gamecock is all primted for that the big game of the 1922 season. We believe that we have a chance, a good chance, of taking that game from the Praying Colonels, and the only thing that we hope is that, if we lose, it won't be on the breaks of the game. The Gamecock upon the gridiron is always ready to acknowledge the superiority of a a better team, but how we do hate to see a fumble, a poor kick, a single piece of bad judgment, ttterly mar an otherwise flawless afternoon's perform ance. This is to be the last appearance of the Gamecock upon the gridiron this fall. It is the last chance for this student body to show [ how strongly they are behind the eleven that has been fighting our battles. It is t;p to the men of the campus to keep theni keyed tip for this last critical game that will mean so much in the final reckoning of the year 1922 in Carolina football history. We can't all go to Danville with the team, more's the pity, but we can all keep interest at a high pi.tch and help furnish the FOOT BALL ATMOS1HERE that puts out winning teams. The official setting vas fur nished by a number of dignitaries of both schools. Dr. and Mrs. Melton were on hand, and very much in evi dence. They arrived after a trip through the cotin(ry from Orangeburg where they went to see the varsity game with Citadel the day before. Then too many of the Carolina stu dents who wvent to Orangeburg, took inl the game at Florence before they reappeare(d with heaming countenances upon University campus. ''lhe gameu developed a veritable host of stars. However in such a game, where every man was fighting for all he was worth every minute of the time. i<t is difficult to pick out the men who stan( head and shoulders above the common run. The big feature of the day was the playing, both on offense and defense. of the Carolina tackles an(l ends. Four varsity men could not have put up a better exhibition of driv ing. intelligent football than was ex hibited by the four freshmen who held down these positions and held theml dowl to perfection : Sholar.
