"MUGGSY" HENNIG SENT TO HIS DOOM. Found Guilty of Malicious Crime-F. W. Cappelman Presides as Trial Judge. Thursday night was the an nual fun night of the law asso ciation, and they proceeded to do the event up in style. The Junior and Senior classes of Chicora were in attendance, as well as a large number of co eds and young ladies from the city. The case commenced when Sheriff McCauley led the de fendant in, bound with a rope, and he was led to the bar to be arraigned. When asked how he wished to be tried by Clerk McIntosh, he replied "By God and my country and a feminine jury." The jurors were then sworn and Mr. Henning was given a mixed jury, consisting of three young ladies from Chicora and three young gentlemen from the law school. The jury was composed of Misses Brice, Ash and Lucius, and Messrs. Aiken, Johnson and Keith. Chief Carouthers, who made the arrest, was the first witness for the State. He said that while he was on duty at Chi cora he made the arrest at the request of Dr. Byrd. He ad mitted that his badge "C. C.," did not stand for Chief Cop, but for chicken chaser. Miss Emaline Frier and Miss Sophie Brooks, gave excellent testimony, the gist of which was that if they flirted it would be with a better looking Romeo than "Muggsy." "Muggsy" introduced as evi dence his fiancee, her ring and the marriage license. Altho his love sick swain in the per son of Miss Jones, testified that he bought the wedding ring on the installment plan and that he was engaged to her-how she knew it, she could not tell. The jury brought in a verdict of guilty, and requested that he be hung. Judge Cappleman, however, sentenced him to the confines of the campus andl that he re frain from seeing his fiancee for two weeks. TVhe State was rep)resentedl by M~essrs. J. E. Edens and Frank TIhomplson, and Mr. Thompson's checked suit, which was so loud that it spoke to the jury. D)efending Mr. Hennig were Messrs. Oxner and Bryson.
