DEBATING SCHEDULE IS . ARRANGED BY COUNCIL Preliminary Contest for Inter State Debate to be Held February 16. At a meeting of the debating council held yesterday, it was decided that the preliminaries for the interstate triangle de bate between the Universities of Florida and Tennessee would be held on February 16. The final debate will be held on March 19. All men who in tend to enter must hand their names to R. C. Thompson, sec retary of the council, not later than February 2. The query for debate is: "Resolved, That .$ boards of arbitration, with com pulsory powers, be established 3 to settle disputes between or cs ganized labor and capital." Cl Speakers will be allowed ten 6 minutes on the preliminary ;a speech. .j The preliminaries for the State Oratorical contest will be -g held on March 2, the finals be i ing set for the third Friday night in April. It was suggested that the date for the intrastate debate between Clemson, Citadel and the academic students of the university be April 30. The preliminary contest will be held on March 29. The query has not yet been decided upon, but will be posted as soon as possible. Those who intend to enter must report the fact not later than March 15th. ALUMNI SECRETARY GOES TO FLORENCE. R. W. Wade, alumni sec retary, will attend a meeting of the Florence county alumni to morrow night in Florence. He will be accompanied by Prof. Yates Snowden and Dr. Bur ney, representing the faculty of the university. This is the first of a number of organiza tions of university alumni be ing planned, and its success is being watched with interest. It is the purpose of the alumni ex ecutives to organize every county in the State in the next few months. BANQUET COMES TONIGHT The Y. M. C. A. will be host to a banquet to be given tonight at Flinn Hall to all members of the Bible Discussion Groups who maintained a perfect at tendance record during the re cent series of classes conducted on the campus. Arrangements have been made for an elabor ate feed and other features of the affair will be the speeches of several prominent men and entertainment by beautiful young girls. Over sixty men are eligihla for the hannuat. ALUMNI ASSOCIATION TO PUBLISH MAGAZINE At a meeting of an alumni committee last Monday, plane were completed for the publi cation of a university alumni magazine. Professor F. W, Bradley, head of the Depart ment of Teutonic languages al the university, was elected edi tor-in-chief of the new period ical. Prof. Bradley is a grad uate of this institution in the in the A. E. F. during the re cent war. He is a man capable class of 1907, servrd as major of filling this position. Othei members of the staff include: Professors A. C. Carson, Henry C. Davis and Yates Snowden o1 the faculty; of the alumni, R. W. Wade; alumni secretary; George Coffn Taylor, W. W Ball, J. H. Witherspoon, J. F J. Caldwell, J. Rion McKissick Eugene H. Blake and Miss Jes sie Fraser; of the student body R. C. Thompson and Miss Ro. berta Camak. The board of editors already chosen will meet soon to make additions to the staff. It is pro posed that the first issue be published by March 15th, and thereafter the magazine will appear each month. The advisory board is to consist of a faculty representative from each of th< following institutions: Con. verse, College of Charleston Greenville Woman's College Anderson and the university. According to the plan, there will be four issues per year, tw< in the fall and two in the spring. The magazine is to bE a purely literary publication containing no departments and no local features. It was sug gested that its name be "The Palmetto Magazine." Members of the committeE are: Miss Clarice Townsend Anderson College ;Miss Cor rinne Justice, Converse Col lege, and Cuthbert Johnsor and R. C. Thompson of the uni, veraity.
