PLANS OF Y. M. C. A. ADOPTED BY BOARD Year's Work Outlined and Proposed Budget Accepted Plans for the work of the Y. M. C. A. this year were pre sented to the board of directors by Mr. Bell at a meeting held last Friday night. The report was accepted with several amendments. It follows in part: "Spirit and Leadership-. The members of the Y. M. C. A. and especially of the council should not let any group of men surpass them in interest I in all college activities and in their loyalty to Carolina and to the support of all things that will go to help the University. Therefore it is the purpose of the Cabinet to select a council %to be composed of men repre senting every group and every ,class on the campus, men who ;will be the natural leaders of the college and who will have -the spirit to boost Carolina at dall times and stamp out any embryo attempts to spread strife and factionalism among the students. Social Work-B. E. Little field, chairman. The social conimittee will in no way con flict with the social cabinet but will co-operate with them, making it their special duty to obtain. the kinds of clean so cial functions in which .every student can have a share. The following socials are planned: Freshman Reception, Fresh man Banquet, Thanksgiving Social, George Washington S.o cial, May Day Social. Membership.-F. H. Cor ley, Chairman. Membership shall be extended to all mem-I bers of the faculty and student body who are in sympathy with the aims of the association and are willing to co-operate in its work. By order of Mr. Strat ton of 'the Columbia Y. M. C. A. all members of the student as sociation wil be granted full membership to the city Y. M. C. A. for $5.00. Religious Work. - J. S. Mears, Chairman. It will be the policy of the religious work committee to secure as inter - esting speakers for the Wednes day meetings as are possible. Men like Dr.- Clinkscales, Dr.I Snyder, Dr. E. P. Pressley, Dr. H. A. Porter, Dr. W. D. Weath erford and others. Besides the speakers on distinctly religious subjects it is planed to have aI speaker once per month on current topics, on missionary work and -onferenes on su dent problems to be led by stu dents. Bible Study.-.Mr. J. P. Sif ford,- Chairman. The cabinet feels that the Bible study work is.one of the most vital on the campus. The plan is to have one class for each tenement to be led by students in most cases and by interested faculty mem bers. The -teachers are to meet once per week to go over the problems of the 'lesson to gether. The classes shall run for only ten weeks, beginning the first of October and run ning to the Christmas holidays. In order to stimulate interest the cabinet would like to offer to each man who does not miss a class a supper banquet. The text contemplated is "Christian Standards of Life." Chapel Co-operation.-It is the purpose of the organiation to operate with the chaplin in every way possible to make chapel more interesting. This can be done by organizing and supplying occasional speakers. orchestra and choir and by Social Service - R C. Thompson, Chairman. The committee has planned to work with Mr. Gordon in the mills to teach Bible class and lead Boy Scouts, etc. Some work is planned for the negroes of the community and for the news boys, such work to be determ ined as soon as conditions are better known." The proposed budget as pre sented by Mr. Bell was adopted without amendment, as were the recommendations of the cabinet. With the year's work outlined and with the hearty co-operation of the student body in view it would seem that the Y. M. C.
