UNIVERSITY MADE MEMBER OF GROUP Joins Association of Colleegs and Secondary Schools At the annual meeting of the Association of Colleges and Secondary schools, of the Southern States, the University of South Carolina was elected to membership. This associa tion is made up of the leading colleges and secondary schools of the South and was organized in 1895. Its purpose is toelevate the standard of scholarship and to effect uniformity of entrance requirements. The constitution of the asso ciation fixes the entrance re quirements for the present at 14 units, allowing two condi tions which should be removed before the beginning of the stu dents' second year in college. It is probable that this standard will be raised one unit at the next meeting of the associa tion. The colleges of South Caro lina which are members are the College of Charleston, Con verse college and Wofford col lege, of Spartanburg and the University of South Carolina. The association met in Atlan ta on last Thursday and Friday, November 15 and 16. Dean L. T. Baker represented the uni versity at the association meet i ng. CAROLINA VOCALISTS TO SING AT COKER In regard to this year's pros pects for the Glee Club, Man ager Dusenbury says: "We have all reason to hope for a successful season. The men are showing much interest and have willingly responded tc every call. We .hope to put out a Glee Club that will equal any of those ever gotten out at Carolina." The Club expects to fill ar engagement at Coker College on December 15. So far this is the only one scheduled, bui within the next few weeks an excellent program for the yeai will be made. Jersey Papal Lina Mess-hall . ... .frog . ... .dog . street .... artist HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS TO PLAY GAME HERE Florence and Winnsboro Rivals for Championship Following the arrangement inaugurated last year the State high school football champion ship game will be staged on the university field under the su pervision of the university ex tension department. The date of the game has not been defi nitely decided but it will. be ar ranged as soon after hanksgiv ing as possible. The university schedule will have been com pleted by them so there is no possibility.of conflict. All de tails as to ocffiials, advertising, etc., will be arranged by the university extension depart ment. Sylvan Brothers have of fered a silver cup to the win ning team. A new cup will be given each year by Sylvan Brothers. Florence high school, last year's champion, has practical ly cinched the Pee Dee cham pionship with a record of not being scored upon by a higlF 'chool team. The opponent of the Golden Tornado has noi been selected as yet, four team. having claims to the honors. The game last year, won bt Florence, was one of the bes1 contest seen on the universit3 field, both teams showing brand of football seldom sur passed by college elevens.Man3 of the stars of the contest ar( shining lights on college team, this season, Phillips of Chestei ranking among the greates1 backfield men in the State. BRIGHTENED OUTLOOK FOR CAROLINA ANNUAL The Garnet and Black thi! year will be as good if not bet ter than all previous annuals M. A. Wright and J. C. Kears< are both very experienced it the line of handling college publications and with the com bined effort of the staff, the, will be able to score a big sue cess in this year's annual. The two main features o the Annual will be the Militar, Department and the introduc tion of sponsors. Each organi 'ation will have its sponsors most pr-obably selected by th President. Mr. Kearse has been bus; awarding contracts to variou firms for cuts, pictures, etc., fo the Annual. It has not been de cided where the printing wil be done but several concern are being considered. The pictures of the variou classes, clubs, etc. will be madi next week.
