UNIVERSITY MADE
MEMBER OF GROUP
Joins Association of Colleegs
and Secondary Schools
At the annual meeting of the
Association of Colleges and
Secondary schools, of the
Southern States, the University
of South Carolina was elected
to membership. This associa
tion is made up of the leading
colleges and secondary schools
of the South and was organized
in 1895. Its purpose is toelevate
the standard of scholarship and
to effect uniformity of entrance
requirements.
The constitution of the asso
ciation fixes the entrance re
quirements for the present at
14 units, allowing two condi
tions which should be removed
before the beginning of the stu
dents' second year in college. It
is probable that this standard
will be raised one unit at the
next meeting of the associa
tion.
The colleges of South Caro
lina which are members are the
College of Charleston, Con
verse college and Wofford col
lege, of Spartanburg and the
University of South Carolina.
The association met in Atlan
ta on last Thursday and Friday,
November 15 and 16. Dean L.
T. Baker represented the uni
versity at the association meet
i ng.
