CHILD SPECIALIST TO LECTURE HERE Extension Department Offers Course to Mothers I)r. William Weston, a leading child specialist of Columbia, has been engaged by the University to deliver a series of lectures to the mothers of Columbia begin ning today and continuing until the end of the pres ent session. Lectures will he delivered every Wednesday at 5 o'clock in room 302 LeConte Col lege. The series of addresses will relate to problems of earing for children, and should prove of unusual interest to Columbia mothers. There will be no tuition charg ed for the course, the University ofrering the public the benefit of the series as part of its extension work. The decision to add such a course to the regular currieu lum was reached mainly as the result of the "baby week" cam paign. The extension department of the University formally organs ized in 1915 has come to be one of the most important factors in the progress of the State. Its ob .Iert has been to extend the many benefits of the University to those who would otherwise he unable to obtain them. CATALOGUE READY FOR DISTRIBUTION The 1916-1917 catalogue has been printed and will be ready for distribution in the next few days. In many respects it is the best catalogue the University has issued. Among the new features, the most prominent is the rearrange ment of the description of the camulis. It is written in the forrmr of a tour, each building b eing descriLbed as a visitor would see them starting at Flinn Hall. Altho the military science de partiment has only been recently organized, the catalogue Contains a short deseription of its organi zration and plans. Prof. Oscar L. SNOWDEN Possibility of General Joffre's Presence at Meeting The historically inclined among the members of the Cercle Fran cais have a treat in store in the leeture to be delivered at the meeting Monday by Prof. Yates Snowden of the University faculty. The title of Prof. Snowden's address will be "A Tale of Two Cities." It will deal with the history of the French in South Carolina. Prof. Snowden has a subject dear to his heart and of interest to every lover of France and of South Carolina. Prof. Keith, president of the Cercle, has telegraphed General .Ioffre and his party requesting their presence here and expects to have them at the meeting. The meeting will be held in Flinn Ifall and will begin prompt ly at 8:30. In case Gen. Joffre arrives in time, the meeting will probably be held in the Columbia theatre. A delightful musical program has been prepared by the secretary, Mdlle. Roman.
