VIVID RECITAL ON MARIE ANTOINETTE Cercle Francais Delighted with Madame Guerrin Marie Antoinette was the sub ject of a vivid costume recital given by Madame Guerrin at the Cercle Francais last Tuesday. She contrasted the gay, young spendthrift of Versailles and Trianson with the calm, glorious heroine of the Tuilleries and the Temple. To hear Madame Guer rin was but to sympathize with Marie Antoinette in her failing, to love her in her glory. The lecture was given in four acts, each representing a stage in the life of the heroine. Ma dame Guerrin's French was so clear and her interpretation so accurate that her lecture could be understood and enjoyed by all. Madame and MademoislleGuerrin wore the costumes of each scene that they impersonated and in this way added much to the pleas ure of the evening. Each act was preceded by an explanatory reading by Prof. F. W. Bradley of the University. This reading was illustrated by lantern slides. At the conclusion of the lecture Madame Guerrin gave a most in teresting talk in English. She expressed a great liking for America and especially for the South. She said the South was more "Frenchy", that is more polite. Madame Guerrin has de livered hundreds of lectures throughout the United States and at the conclusion of her pres ent toor or as soon as possible she intends to sail for her native land. She said she had intended to leave America for good but since visiting the South she had decided to return home. LEGISLATURE GIVES $40,000 FOR LAW BUILDING so situated would tend to weld the different parts of the Uni versity in to closer relationship. Much interest has been mani fested also as to what name the new building will bear. It seems likely that the traditional policy of naming the tenements and class-room buildings after distin guished alumni and faculty members will be retained, and in all probability the new home for the law students will be niamed for some alumnus of the school who has played a conspic uous part in the history of the state. The following new students have joined the junior class for the second term: Miss Mary Guthrie Sledge, Messrs. Clinton Fallow, Cyrus L. Shealey, and Marcna Wesley Price. "Sii, fn, Bd." I At a regular Wednesday night meeting of the Y. M. C. A., a se ries of lantern slides of the Blue Ridge Y. M. C. A. Student Con ference was shown. Secretary King, assisted by three members of the cabinet, handled the ma chine and made some interesting talks concerning the activities and excellent programs of the delegates at the conference. Mr. King is particularly anx ious to have a good representa tion from Carolina next June. He told of the broadening and spiritualizing influence that comes from contact with the fin est set of men in the student bodies of Southern colleges. He also showed what a delightful vacation the time spent at the Conference would be and how reasonable the expeises would be. As this was the regular time for the nomination of officers, the nominating committee putl the following names before the Y. M, C. A.: J. H. Martin, pres ident, J. C. Kearse, vice-pres ident, A. P. Talley, secretary and M. K. Barr, treasurer. These names will be voted upon at the next regular meeting. ..ABURNETT & WHETSELL. Druggists 2052 Main St .......
