Y. M. C. A. NEWS "Spirit, Mind, Body." Mr. D. W. Robinson, an attor ney of Columbia, spoke at the regular Y. M. C. A. meeting in Flinn Hall Wednesday evening on "Stimulants." Mr. Robinson is an active promoter of prohi bition in South Carolina. He was one of the originators of the move to bring a prohibition election before the people of the State and the passage of the measure was aided greatly by his influence and untiring efforts. He is now working in the inter est of enforcing the law already made. The address was mainly taken up with the effect of alcohol upon the individual and indirect ly upon society. He gave sever al striking illustrations of dimin ished efficiency due to the drink ing of alcoholic beverages. The speaker used stenographers and telegraphers as examples of this, showing that their work was slower and less accurate when under the slight influence of al cohol than when entirely sober. Mr. Robinson is now interested in a bill to limit the monthly supply of each individual to two quarts instead of a gallon. He spoke of this measure and also proposed several plans by which prohibition could be more easily enforced. The speaker said that these were only steps in favor of entire prohibition in the State which would gradually lead to nation wide prohibition. Before the lecture Miss Lillian Glenn rendered a piano solo which added greatly to the pro gram. THE INVINCIBLE PAIR HERE FOR THREE DAYS "Ted" Mercer and "Tom" Farm er, On the Program This Week at Y. M. C. A. "Ted" Mercer and "Tom" Farmer, the invincible pair, will begin a series of lectures in chapel Wednesday night at 7:30. These gentlemen need no intro duction to most of the Carolina boys, having been here before. Those who heard them know that they have something worth wvhile. Those who have not heard them cannot afford to miss what is in store for them. "Ted" Mercer, from Savannah and of the University of Virgin ia, with Tom Farmer, of New York City, and "a man of the street", have for several years been carrying to college men the message of those who have learn ed by sad and bitter experience. There will be a musical pro gram before the lecture. All students urged to be present TO IMPROVE GROUNDS ABOUT THE INFIRMARY Dr. Currell Ask Alumni to Help Improvement of University Infirmary Grounds. President Currell has a cam paign whereby he hopes to real ize enough money to improve the grounds around the Infirmary. We have comfortable and well equipped-though it could be better-infirmary, so far the interior is concerned, but the outside is badly in need of im provement. Dr. Currell is send ing letters to a number of Alum ni asking that they contribute to the fund for improving the lawn, putting down walks and planting trees about the Infirmary. To the first letter sent out $25 was sent in by Mr. P. H. Gasden, of Charleston. This prompt and liberal response is very encourag ing and it is hoped that in a short while enough money will be raised to carry out the work contemplated by Dr. Currell.
