Y. M. C. A. NEWS "Spirit, Mind, Body." Weekly Meeting. Dr. Reed Smith of the English faculty of the University gave one of the most inspiring and intellectual addresses of the year at the regular Y. M. C. A. meet ing Wednesday evening. The subject of Dr. Smith's ad dress was "The Fullness of Christ." For nearly one hour the speaker entertained his hear ers with one of the best addres es heard here in a long time. "That was some talk last night, wasn't it Jack?" was the com ment heard on the campus the next day. Dr. Smith began by naming a long list of the world's greatest heroes and in a few words told of their achievements. But none of these gave anything definite to the generations yet to come. None of these men begin to com pare with Christ. When we draw a comparison between Christ and such men there is no danger of lowering our ideal of Him, because He is so far above them in every respect. Christ was a man who appeal ed to all classes that he came in contact with. Among these were the centurions, the publi cans, the little children, the plain busines man, and even the rich young ruler. Christ not only appealed to the men of all class es, but he appealed to the wom en as well. Not only did the bad women come to him, but the good women came also. The speaker used illustrations from the Bible where both the good and bad women sought the aid of Christ. In reality Christ ap pealed to the world at large. He was a man of gentleness, tenderness and womanly char acter on the one hand, but on the other Christ was a man of indignation and wrath when the occasion demanded. That is, when it was necessaay for him to defend right and justice. Mina Kuchi Speaks. FRESHMEN QUINTET ROMPS OVER SOPHS First Year Men Easily Win at Basketball-Score 40 to 13. The freshmen basketball team easily defeated the sophomores Tuesday night by the score of 40 to 13. Much pep was dis played by both teams and the game was hard fought .from start to finish. At the outset the freshmen showed plenty of snap and easi ly secured the lead over their op ponents. The freshman team as a whole played excellent ball and deserve much credit. They ex ecuted several neat passes and in some stages of the game threw goals almost at will. There were rio particular stars on the freshmen team as each man play ed exceptionally good ball. Altho the losers could not show as much real playing they fought gamely thruout the con Lest. They did not seem to have as much team work as the fresh men, but nevertheless put up a good game. For the sophmores Refo and Cato played striking ball. Much interest was shown in the contest and a good crowd of stu dents witnessed the game. Coach Blackburn should be able to find some good material for the var sity from the two teams.
