CAROLINA STUDENTS GO TO BLUE RIDGE Dr. Poteat Tells of Education al Value of Conference. Six Carolina men have already definitely decided to attend the Southern Student Conference to be held at Black Mountain, June 15-28. At least six men ought to go in order to give the Uni versity adequate representation. Dabbs and Sec'y King are put ting forth untiring endeavors to see Carolina send an ample quo ta, who will return next year to be the backbone and inspira tion to the Y. M. C. A. The following statement from Dr. E. M. Poteat, president of Furman University, is a splen did testimony to the value of the conference: "For several years I have been a regular attendant at this con ference and I never see the as sembling of these young men without a thrill of interest, and as my mind runs out to the col leges that come from all through the Southern States the interest grows deeper. It is still further deepened when these young men settle into the work of the conference and begin to catch its spirit. "I know not a more whole some interpretation of religion than is furnished in the class room work, personal fellowship, inspirational addresses, study in methods, out-door sports which are brought together here from year to year. In saneness, in virility, in depth, in happiness, reach and outlook, in loyalty to Christ-in all these aspects one finds here a full exemplification of Christian life. "Among the practicable things which one could do for a given school I should choose to under take to induce a substantial dele gation to attend the conference. I can think of few things more valuable to total life of a school than sending forward such a delegation to such a place into such experiences. Clemson Games Canceled. The baseball games scheduled to be played with Clemson at Greenwood on May 17-18 have been canceled owing to the fact that the players need the time to prepare themselves for ex aminations. The students are hoping that the Gamecocks will meet the Tigers on the diamond next season. This would add to generous rivalry now existing between the institutions. Dean Baker went away last week to speak at the commence ment exercises of the Indian town Consolidated School. Les ter Lewis, who is well known on the campus, is principal of the school INTER DEBATE TO BE RESUSCITATED Insignia Medals and Trophy Cup Will be Awarded. The annual inter-society de bate has come to life again. At a recent meeting of the Euphradian and Clariosophic Societies it was iecided that the contest be held )n June 4. The four members Af the teams will each be given a medal containing the insignia Af their respective societies. The winning society will retain possession of the cup for one year. A committee consisting of H. D. Hanna, J. S. Dudley, L. B. Harrison, and J. Dinkins has been appointed to choose sides for their respective societies. Also, these men are to adopt the iuery. It is believed that this contest will result in a renewal of society spirit, and that more men will join. In former times this was the most important debate held at Carolina. Intense rivalry ex isted between the societies, and the most spirited contest of the year was the result. The new inter-society debate, it is hoped, will be to Carolina's forensic schedule what the Caro lin-Clemson game is to ath letics. A. B. Adams, A. B. '10, and M. A. '12, of Columbia, has been granted a fellowship at Col umbia University for next year. This fellowship is in Political Economy. At present he is teaching at the University of Oklahoma.
