AFFIRMATIVE MEN DEBATE AT ATHENS Upholds Carolina's Side Against Tennessee. Raymon Schwartz of the senior law class and Ashley Merrimon of the junior law class are sup ports to the affirmative corner of the triangle against Tennessee, which will be held at the Uni versity of Georgia tonight while Tennessee and Georgia debate at' Carolina. Schwartz has been an active society member for four years, and represented the Eu phradian Society in the Roddey debate this year. He won the society oratorical medal last year. Merrimon is recognized as one of Carolina's strongest speakers. He was the best debater at the Citadel while he was there. He won the South Carolina Inter-col legiate Oratorical Association medal for his school. These men won in the preliminaries over forcible debaters. and naturally Carolina expects them to come off with first honors. Both are members of the Euphradian So ciety. This is Carolina's second year in triangular debating. Last year she captured one corner of the figure, but lost the other to Georgia by one vote. Virginia constituted one of the trio, but having lost all decisions, dropped out this year. Tennessee upholds the vacated place. This is the first time that Carolina has met Tennessee in forensic battle. It is the hope that this is the begin ning of a happy relationship be tween the Palmetto and the Blue Grass State. The debaters left early yesterday so as to have a! short rest after the long ride. Dr. Wauchope Speaks. Dr. George A. Wauchope lec tured before the Wednesday Club of Laurens this week. The fence committee is push ing forward very rapidly the work on the athletic fence, and is expecting to have it finished in a short time. The fence would have been completed had it not been for the fact thai many of the planks had to be torn off because of an inferior grade. They will be returned to the lumbermen. The grandstand is in the hands of contractors and will be erec ted in the next thirty days as the contract terminates then. Therefore it is only a questior of time until old Davis Field wil be surrounded with a fence that will be the pride of every Caro lina man. New Catalog Out.
