Hey, Stack! * * A valediction is often a male diction. * ** Our umpires have been rather Weir-d. * ** Some examinations are impas sionate. * ** Our objection to kodaking is the exposure. A new race discovered!-the soph co-ed ra-e. Torpedoes constitute Ger many's sinking fund. * * * The cue bet did not originate from the alpha-bet 'q'. * ** Although they are scribes we would not call them Pharisees. * ** The Germans are reported to be using gas. We believe it's hot air. Dalton and Seymour are about to tight over the cost of a ride in the Jitney Bus. * ** A lawyer would call a man suffering from a weak constitu tion unconstitutional. * ** We venture a bet that the bit terest bite Is one's own words that he is force to swallow. Once there was a little girl who was very very nice. If I wrote to her once, she'd write to me twice. I wrote twice once, just for fun, And now I have to write two for one. HERE IT IS Greetings (applause)! WE ARE WHOLLY THINE The columns of THE GAMECOCK are open to reasonable and brief public opinion of every member of the student body and faculty. With this inter-relation we shall feel that we are representative. MACHINE POLITICS In union there is strength; in political machinery there is cor ruption. This is evidenced in the decision of the Terre Haute conspiracy case. There is no honorable, worthy reason for tihe exisLience of a steamsu roller in any organization. It is a pos itive revelation of the character and ambitions of the participants. It shows the insatiable greed and unworthiness of its members. When it takes a clique or a ma chine to create or elevate a thing or a person, that fact alone is sufficient proof that the product is not the result of evolution, and it leads to the presumption that that clique considers the person in question as probably unworthy. If it were not so, why the ma chine? The acron fa!!s to the ground and develops into an oak.. What a beautiful life! It does not require a machine. Carolina has been upheld as a democratic institution- -demo cratic in the spirit that strength ened Washington, democratic in the spirit that supported Lee. We are proud of this. We glory in her liberty-loving atmosphere. We deprecate the practice, and unflinchingly condemn the man, or men, who by secret and un fair means would try to legislate particular and unwholesome measures. We excoriate in the harshest terms the man, and the motive which prompts him, who would secretly endeavor to round out and mould the policy of any organization. It is presump tious, to say the least. It is a re flection upon the body, and is an injustice to the man who is sup posed to get the benefit of the craftsmen's creation. We believe that the expedient man is the successful man. An individual is often harmed by the efforts of his friends. Clean politics is wholesome and com mendable. But the foulest, the most tkontemptible politics is that which a man is not willing that everybody know. It is base, de grading, and unbecoming a mem ber of any honorable organiza tin_ MAY troubi an' al ays get in tie smokei yo' ole pipe.
