In our own behalf, we can say that we have placed the interests of this paper above all else. To the truth of this statement our professors will cheerfully sub peribe. Our work is now over. The best we hope for is that you will writ.. our epitaph after the manner of:that of the dead cowboy, "They did their darn dest." PURPOSE OF TIS ISSUE. We hold no brief for athletics. But, be that as it may, the vari ous athletic activities of the stu dent body fills a large- place in the. life of . the average under graduate. In this issue of the Gamecock we have endeavored to give correctly the status. of ath letics at the University for the benefit of both the students and the alumni. Especially do we wish to call attention to the articles on the need of a fence and grandstand for the athletic field, since their erection is the most pressing. re. quirement for the success of athletics at U. S. C. Notice.
