The students of Baylor Univer ity, Waco, Texas, are organiz _ng a military company under the recent act of Congress, whereby colleges are issued one rifle for every 5 members and 120 rounds of ammunition for every member of the club. The 1914 annual of The United States Naval Academy had as its editor-in-chief -a South Carolina midshipman. His name is C. F. Martin, of Blaekville. The 1914 "Lucky Bag" is prized by the midshipmen as the best ever is sued by the Naval Academy. News From Winthrop. On Friday night, the -23rd, the students of Winthrop enjoyed an evening of de,ightful singing, rendered by Jenny Dufan, a prima donna coloratura Sopram of the Chicago-Philadelphia Opera Co. She sang in French, German, and ;in English. Several ,reeis of educational pictures were shown on Satur day night. Some were scientif ic pictures, while others that were shown were "Berlin I"ire Departmerrt," "Antwerp," and "Battle-ship. A Axson was absent from the campus from Wednesday af ternoon until Thursday night. S. N. Lott took advantage of the holidays this week-and hus tied home for a week end stay. David Polier was absent from his college pursuits today at the request of his father H. D. Po lier of Aiken. "Chief" LaGrone left the campus Thursday afternoon for a short business errand to Bates burg, S. C., his home. Waters, Scott, Kizer, Bolt, "Gravy" Carroll, and others have been employed by the Fair Association this week. The sympathy of each and every one of us is extended to one of our number, Ernest Morgan, who was recntty called home on: account a death in his family. Paul Moore's service has been secured by the "Mill News" cf Charlotte, N. C. for the contri bution of a series of Articles on "Roller Covering." His first article will appear in next week's issue. Three Games Next Week. In spite of the hard fight the the team put up againt the Clemson Tigers, the Carolina .squad was .out for practice as eager as ever on Friday. The squad has a full week next week. On Wednesday Carolina meets Wofford at thel Spartanburg Fair. And it is well agt eed that Wofford's team though light and comparatively inexperienced, has ,plenty of ".pap" arnd rough players. Over -confidence in one college teams' strength; and lack of eonfidence in the other college team's strength, has caused many de feats for the former. 'On Saturday Carolina will be playing two games at the same time. The .varsity will.entertain Wake .orest on the home field , ,while the.happy aerubs,will sipeed away to-Greenwood to rmeet the' handsome ylads of 1B. M. I. The infirmary officials are pleased to report that no stu ents have been reported sick for the last ton days. Y. M. C. A. There was no regular rneetirng of the Y. M. C. A. this week on account of it being Fair Week. The time of meeting of the Y. M. C. A. has been changed from Wednesday nights at 7:80 to Thursday nights at the sante hour. Dr. Winfield Scott Hail, a graduate of Northwestern Unj versity, and one of America's most noted physicians, will be on the campus soon. Next Thursday night the Asso ciation will be addressed by Dr. Blackwood, the new pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Blackwood will choose as his subject, "The Young Man, Jesus." Fellows, let us come out in full force as we shall cer tainly hear something well worth while. Let us all be there on time.
