Occasionally, though, you do hear a student say "gymnasium" and "examination." * ** Among those who registered after the holidays was little New ton Bunsen Burney. . * ** Sometimes we close our eyes and imagine ourselves cuddled .up in Alford's Buick. Over in the library they won't stand for anything but silence and very little silence at that. What has become of the old fashioned freshman who used to carry a one dollar bill in the toe of his sock? * ** Our spies report that vacant places at the mess hall are rapid ly filling up which is just why vacant places were taken to the mess hall. When a man's beard grows a quarter of an inch over night he must be tempted 1.o say with the psalmist, "Oh, slave, where is thy victory!" * * * Whenever you see Clinkscales mumbling to himself, he is re peating that old saying about the prophet being without honor in his owvn country. CO-OPERATION WITH PUBLICATIONS The fellows here have 'got to do more to help out the three publications, The Gamecock, The Carolinian 'and The Garnet and Black. Every fellow should at least take The Gamecock' and The Carolinian and buy a copy of The Garnet and Black even tho he may not contribute to any of them. To round out our college life we should stop this infernal hab it of specialization and try to broaden, to widen our sphere of influence. If you are not a sub scriber to these publications, get busy, don't be a tightwad. Help out our college publications. FACULTY AT ORATORICAL CONTESTS We hate to have to always show our faculty the way they ought to follow. Most of 'em (there are one or two exceptions) ought to know by this time what is ex pected of them. We will wager that there is not another college in this State where all forensic contests are not attended by at least two thirds of the faculty. This body of grave and venerable men daily impress us with the enormous importance of paying especial attention to that subject which they lecture on, and lay especial emphasis upon our col lege spirit, in so far as it applies to studies. And yet not more than two or three of them ever come out to cheer on those who attempt to occupy the high chairs of Demdsthenes and Webster. It is not right. These men ought to have the co-operation of every member of the faculty. And every member of the faculty ought to be present at every one of these meetings. What are you going to do about it, faculty? Pity Christmas dinners don't give tips on cramming for exams. ANOK A ANOKA.l YWw ARROW %KCOLLAR Cloettt Peabody & Co.. Inc.
