THREE NEW COURSES OFFERED THIS YEAR Two in the Department of Biol ogy, the Other in Modern Languages. Three new courses are offered this year, one in the Depart ment of Modern Languages and two in the Department of Biology. The former department offers a course in Italian. This is open to all students who have taken Latin except Freshmen, and is designed to give a general know ledge of the pronounciation and grammar, from which a student may acquire by practice, ability as a reader of language. o The Department of Biology $ffers Entomology and Genetics, both under the direction of Prof. sGee. Each of these are one term s studies, Entomology taking up the 6 first part of the year and Genet ics, the second. The course in Entomology is designed to give a knowledge of the essential facts concerning the structure, life Ihistories, habits and control measures of insects, meeting the demands of the students espec ially from an agricultural point of view. It is essential for a deeper study of special problems in Entomology. In the course in Genetica, a thorough considera tion of the principles involved in plant and animal breeding, with considerable attention to the facts of human inheritance is taken up. These two course are offered as electives, and are open to all stu dents. MEETING OF Y. M. C. A. Gcod Talk on 'The Gift of In fluence" by President. One of the best heart-to-heart talks that has ever been g'ven in Flinn Hall was delivered by Mr. G. W. Ward last Wedr es-lay night on "The Gift of Influei.ce." Mr. Ward is president of the University Y. M. C. A., "nd is a man who believes in saying what he thinks is right. His sub ject, said Mr. Guerrant, was a di f ficult one to handle, rnd one that required nerve to discuss Lc fore his own group, but Mr. Ward handled it well. Ward stressed the influence n'en have over their associates, not only in college, l.ut after they have gone out into life. Hie ask cd the question, '"Are we, as individuals, doing the thirgs we ought to (0, considering the in fluence that our actions have on our fellows?'' JOHN MILLS WILL RETURN TO CAROLINA Big Boy Writes from His Home in Arizona---Will Report for Practice Shortly. Coaeh Edgerton just before leaving for Virginia, received a letter from "Big" John Mills to the effect that he would in a few days return to Carolina. "Big 'un" held the tackle job down to a tee last year and several years previous. His feat of playing a a star game against Wake For est last season with practically no practice is to be remembered. Mills has plenty of spirit and fight in him and will make an in valuable addition to the line.
