OLARIOSOPHIC SOCIETY ELECTS ORATORS Men to Try Out in Preliminary for S. C I. O. A. Contest Named by Society. Saturday night at their regular meeting the Clariosophic Society elected the following to go into the preliminary to select the three men who will represent the society in the South Carolina Inter-Collegiate Oratorical Association-: Ben M. Sawyer, Wade V. Hoffm,an, Lester Lewis, Bryan -1. Lumpkin. Much interest is being taken by the members of the society in the coming contests. MOOT COURT. The Law Association was called to order by President Owens. The first case to be tried was "Clocks vs. Atlantic Coast Railway Company." Newell & Btsbee for plaintiff. Mc Millan & O'BHrian for defendant. The case resulted in a nonsuit, notice of appeal being served hv the plaintiff. Professor Rucker presided at this case, and was easily the feature of the meeting. The attorneys for next week are: Brandenburg & Har-is for the plain tiff; McCord & Baker for the defen dant. Professor Frierson will pre side. N. Pr-ofessor- Baker- has charge of the Uiniversity Notes, while Pro fessor Green hianid-s the classic deC partment. Work on New Dormitory is Being Pushed. The vork on the new dormitory is being rapidly pushed, and in con sequence the walls are rising with astonishing rapidity. The building now stands about twenty-live feet high and each day sees several ad ditional feet added to its height. This building is being erected at the back of DeSaussure College, facing Marion and Sumter streets, and will be a modern building in every respect, being eqluipped with all mo(ern conveniences, embracing electric lighting, water, steam heat and baths. The erection of this building will fill a long-felt need at the University. For several years the students have been tunable to re-. ceive accommodations upon the cam puts, and consequently have had to room in the city. This year each room on the camnputs has from three to five men occupying it. The new dorititory will relieve this congested condition to a certain extent, as it will accommodate from fifty to seventy-five men. The (lormitory will be completed and ready for occupancy by the be ginning of the secomd trnn and it is expected that a good number of new students will enroll at that time. NEW SONG BOOKS HAVE ARRIVED Neat Hymn Books Containing Alma Mater Songs Now in Use at Chapel. The new hymn books have come and are (list ributed in the chapel. The book is a neat green volume en titled Fellowship Songs, and con tains, besides the hymns, the alma Imater songs of the University. There is a sufficiency of books for each man to sing out of, so try and make an effort to help out with the singing each morning. The manager wants 400 subscrib ers to TH E GAMEcocK. IIe has 300 now. What can you do for him? Basketball Practice Will Begin Soon. This year the prospects for basket hall are better and brighter than they have been since the game was be gun here. Last year the team was an exce)tionally good one, and this year, with many of the old men back in the game, the team promises to be a hard one to win from.
