A oar of the special train bringing'"back visitors to the Fair was thrown from the track. The train was crowded with people, and when about seven miles this side of Columbia, a rail broke under tho wheels and kHocked the bottom, bf the ladies’ car all to pieces,’besides Throw ing the car np in an almost perpen dicular position, leaving if resting on one end. There ^were about forty-pas sengers in the ’car,” but for a wonder, none were serioiiiiy-jhurt, though many were scratched and bruised." The scene was a Very exciting one; the passengers being thrown into a heap among the'^gats towards thcN'ear end of the car, the front cud being tilted in the air- with the door about eight feet from the ground. ‘-Many o^ the passengers scrambled to tlie door and jumped dowir to the ground, others crawled out the windows, and there were some who remained in the tele scoped c&r, too badly frightened to make an effort to escape. One lady, not taking time to raise the car Win dow, broke ont the j^lass with her hand and jumped through. The glass cut through her glove and lacerated her hand in a painful manner. Among the most ridiculous scenes was that of a man and his wife who had a baby in tlie seat with them when the crash eamc and who, in their excitement, escaped from the train and left the bady to its fate. But the other passen gers took care of it. The escape of the passengers was remarkable. The bottom Of'the car was' badly* torn np by ‘the rail, and how the occupants escaped injury by the spintered tim bers is a mystery. W anted- A Hltclilag-Poat.
