Upon the probable results of the Star Route verdict, the New York Herald speaks plainly, boldly and sen sibly. The Herald, with its won derful facilities for information, c3n feel the popular pulse, ami with a mar vellous accuracy analyze the state of the public mind. The following ex tract from its leading editorial oif the 21st inst. will be read with interest: We believe the star route verdict will leave a profound and lasting impression ou the public mind. It ought to. The men declared “not guilty” are of no conse quence; but the result of this trial will justly be held by all thoughtful citizens as an appeal which in its general tone and spirit is calculated to wintKy sym pathy of the people of the North aiiit to promote the object for which it is made.
