Columbia, January 6.—This city and its vicinity have had more than their share nf crimes and casnalt: :« during tie past two weeks. A few days after Christmas an atrocious imirder was committed by a black fiend, the victim being his sister-in-law; and for some days after his capture lynching was expected. He is now safe in jail, and will surely hang. Intelligence has reached tire city of flic death of a daughter of Dr. Thos. R. Center. Mr. Levin applied a tourni quet, and hurried on to Mr. Mont gomery’s, but it was many hours be fore a surgeon was secured, and Mr. Barnwell was so prostrated that no operation could lie performed. He sank gradually, and on Friday at one o’clock passed peacefully away.
