Kmorson It) the witness stand to illustrate an exist ing rendition, which we regret to have to admit is too true in every eomniiinity. Kmerron said something like this, to give his thought in prose: 'The mountain ami the squirrel had a quarrel1* and the mountain poked a good deal of fdn at tiie little creature. The squirrel I told the mountain that while it tow ere#! heavenward and could tony a forest on its hack that it could not "crack a nut.** Now, for the moral: There are people who feel themselves so full of importance that tliey refuse to admit that others have any ideas st all worth anything and this idea gains such a firm grasp on # Ik4kllt til t Itolt 1 klliO bit I Ik Ol I III! Let us put aside all grudges and little spites that unlit us for true ami lofty citizenship. These lfttie spites and the scales of self-importunee may at times so completely blind us as to eause us to retrograde in a great many respects. Tli e mountain's view of the situation was narrow and should A 1 ... 1L l il l ik t icacii us rnuT inai mere is nauger in any policy that loads us to wreck oursolvoA upon a sea of ogol ism. ltroad-ininded citizenship?a recognition [of another's rights and a realization of the fact that we are not the "all-inall"?is the need of any town in winning great uchicvmcnts. \ It is to he regretted that the voil mill could not he made to "i<o." A little too jnneh division atnong ns yet. I'ovsihly we are all nielined to he egotistic and wo let this quality in our ''make-up" lead us astray, despite our own better judgment and tlth many precedents showing th<f>folly ?f such a course. Hut we believe we are going to don good husinesR this Fall. The Advertiser hopes that the merchant, the lawyer, the doctor, the preacher, the laborer? and "ye" editor too?all will prosper together and the people can help the town to prosper by Wringing their produce to Cliestorliold markets and buying their goods from .our business men. If Chesterfield business men are wise (not in their own conceit) and tilled with a burning desire to see the town prosper and march onward, t hey will muko herculean efforts not t> let any money pass our town by offering inducements to bring cotton here and keeping the money her?> by giving values for it that will compare favorably or bout the inducements offered at other places. Chesterfield did a good business last fall, let- us heat it this year. We have aided in the upbuilding of other counties long enough, and with our best wishes to all our neighbors, let us "look at home" and hid them do likewise. Our interest lies in Chesterfield county and for her success let us all labor. We are glad that the dear old county is building up. New towns are springing up where once the pine and oak grew and held full sway. The Advertiser is willing to help every community in the county in any possible way.
