O |;t Monday Sept., Hltli. Among the public institutions of our town that which stands us /he fittest exponent of the wisdoii and progress of our people is The Grafted School. We struggled along for a long time under the old method of private and sectarian schools, but some of our good citizens came to the conclusion several years ago that to be up with the times and to realize the most good to everyone with the least outlay a graded school was necessary. They therefore went to woik to obtain one. There was some opposition to the system, as is usual with a now public enterprise, but those who favored the system were so so far succesful that in 1 JSl'ii a special act of the Legislature was passed creating the I'nion School District for the purpose ol establishini; atul maintaining a (Jraded School. Tiie sectarian schools, however had merged into one lion sectarian school in IS!n? and that school was called a graded school before tint passing of the act above mentioned, in Isi'l a handsome and substantial brick building was built bearing <>n the front in bold letters the inscription School lS!h>. The erection oi this building set the seal of success on the school and it has been growitn in popularity and excellence ever since. Ueal estate being cl^eap near Union, there is 110 reason why people in ordinary circuiustacub may not buy eomlbrtable homes in the school district and educate th^ir children for comparatively nothing. Others who arc not able to buy homos could move here and send sonie'efHhoir children to school while the others work in the mill, the only* ?coW being tho extra two mills levy which would be very small tax. There is no reason for people to grow up in ignorance in our country." The next session opens Monday, nun, wiui me same corps 01 teachers that gave such general satisfaction last year.
