BOLL WEEVILS NUMEROUS. "The Mad Winter and Dry Weather *? Favorable to Increase. Baton, Rogue, La., March 29.-The ?cotton boll weevil is unusually num? erous and destructive this year, ac? cording to a report by Dr. W. D. Hunter, in charge of the boll weevil investigation for the United States de? partment of agriculture. He says: "The conditions throughout the past winter have been unusually fa? vorable for ,the hibernation of the "boll weevil. Th two critical condi? tions for successful hibernation, tem? perature and dryness, have been as favorable as they will probably ever be. The mild winter and spring is liaving the effect of causing an unus? ually early emergence. "The conditions indicate clearly that weevils will be unusually abun? dant in the cotton fields, and that .great""damage is expected. Some con? ditions, for instance, dry weather dur? ing June and July after the cotton plants aire well started, may serve to .check the insect" . *Rest is the* great restorer. We tire -our muscles by exercise and then rest to restore them: yet a great many of us do not stop to think how little rest 0 we give our stomachs. As a usual .fleing no part of our bodies i so gen? erally overworked as our digestive or? igans. A tired and overworked stom? ach will give signs cf distress to which we pay no heed until at last -d Tspepsia takes hold. Indigestion is just* a. warning, and if we heed ? . the warning we can easily avoid further consequenees. Kodol is. a most thorough stomach relief. It' digests what you eat and gives the stomach the needed rest and greatly assists in Testoring it to its normal activity and usefulness. Kodol is sold on a guar? antee relief plan. It is sold here by all druggists. I? More than one-half the members of "New York city's population-:2,753, "295 persons-have deposits in the .city's savings banks. Eureka! Doan's Kidney Pills Have Done Great Service for People Who Work in - Sumter. M?st Sumter people work every day In some strained, unnatural position-bending con? stantly over a desk-riding on jolting wagon* or cars-doing laborious housework; lifting, reaching or pulling, or trying the back in a hundred and one other ways. All these strains tend to wear, weaken and injure the kidneys until they fall behind in their work of filtering the poisons from the blood. Doan's Kidney Pills cure sick kidneys, put new strength In bad backs. John R. Brooks, plumber, living at 1223 Tay? lor street, Columbia, S. C., says: "Doan's Kid? ney Pills did me a vast amoun' of good. My back had been in a bad way for a couple of years. I have done some pretty hard work in my time and I think I must have overtaxed zzy back, although I did not know it at the time. It began to ache about two years apo. I would come home at night after a hard day's work feeling fairly well, get my supper and sit around for a while and then my back would begin to hurt. I would go to bed and would try to rest, but could not find any po-* sition that would give me any relief and all that night long the aching would keep ano I arose in the morning more worn out than when I went to bed. I have laid off from work for days at a time and tried to rest and doctoi up my back. I could find nothing to help uni;i I {rot Doan's Kidney Pills, which ' hau seen advertised. They have done me more good tri an I can tell you. Since using them i rest well at night, get np in the morn? ing feeling fresh and bright, and I have not bad a touch of backache since using Doan's Kidney P Us!" T?iink of the greatest man who lias ever lived upon this earth, and then think of him as he lay, an infant, in his mother's arms. Does it seem possible that he should have grown, become great in the world's estimate and perhaps had monuments erected to perpetuate his mem? ory, and yet that the world should have forgotten even the name of the woman who bore him ? The son's work is the mother's primarily and, therefore, the recognition of the dignity and tender sacredness of moth? erhood should no longer be delayed. It is high time that this country's greatest treasures-THE WOMEN WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED LARGELY TO MAKE IT WHAT IT is-should be recognized. Why should not these good mothers be given the right to vote and have a voice in our government-a right that is accorded to some of the most ignorant, most insignificant and vilest of men ? It has been well said that "for every monument to a greni man there should be a monument to his mother and the mother's monument should be built first." But it is not so much the purpose of this brief article to advocate the just rights and privileges due to the women of this country, although it has afforded the writer great pleasure to pen the fore? going briei tribute to their worth and just deserts, as it is to call attention to the fact that when broken down in health and strength by over-work, the too frequent bearing of children, the never ending toil, worry and care pf the household, or by whatever may over? tax the strength and delicacy of her sensitive system, there is (nie, tried and proven, safe remedy upon which she may rely to regain health, strength and the power to fully enjoy life. That remedy is Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription-a remedy made wholly from the roots of native forest plants which hav3 been proven to be most efficacious, reliable and safe in the cure of woman's peculiar weaknesses, period? ical pains, irregularities, wasting and weakening catarrhal, pelvic drains and kindred ailments. It is a remedy, the makers of which print its formula on every bottle-wrapper and attest its com? pleteness and correctness under oath; a remedy devised and adapted to woman's delicate constitution by an educated physician-an experienced specialist in woman's diseases: a remedy, every in grediem^lwhich nas^received the writ? ten endorsement of tbe most eminent mr?icalNrriteta; of all th?Sseveral schools of practi?eyf?r\ the curex-f woman's peculiar di more bona-fide any other sold 1 special required which contains make op Delicate, weak, nervous women should especially shun the use of alcoholic medicines which, from their stimulat? ing and exhilerating effects mav seem, for a time, to do good, but which, from the inevitable effects of the alcohol in shrinking up the red corpuscles of the blood, are sure to do great and lasting harm in the long run. Besides they beget a craving for stimulants which is most deplorable. * Favorite Prescrip? tion " is the one remedy for woman's ills which contains no alcohol. Only invigorating and nerve strength? ening effects can follow the use of this famous medicine for women. It can not possibly do harm in any state or condition of the system. If a woman has bearing down, or dragging pains, low down in the abdo? men, or pelvis, backache, frequent headaches, dizzy or fainting spells, is nervous and easily startled, has gnaw? ing feeling in stomach, sees imaginary floating specks, or spots before her eyes, has melancholia, or "blues," or a weakening disagreeable, catarrhal drain from pelvic organs, she can make no mistake by resorting to the use of Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription. It will invigorate and tone up the whole sys? tem and especially the pelvic organs. Dr. Pierce's Favorite Perscription is a scientific medicine, carefully devised by an experienced and skillful physi? cian, and adapted to woman's delicate system. Being made of native American medicinal roots, and without alcohol, it is perfectly harmless in its effects in any condition of the female system. As a powerful invigorating tonic," Fa? vorite Prescription" imparts lasting strength to the whole system and to the organs distinctly feminine in particular. For over-worked, "worn-out," run? down," debilitated teachers, milliners, dressmakers, seamstresses, " shop-girls," house-keepers, nursing mothers, and feeble women generally, Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription is the greatest, earthly boon, being unequaled as an appetizing cordial and restorative tonic. As a soothing and strengthening ner? vine, "Favorite Prescription" is un? equaled and is invaluable in allaying and subduing nervous excitability,, ir? ritability, nervous exhaustion, nervous prostration, neuralgia, hysteria, spasms, St.Vitus's dance, and other distressing, nervous symptoms commonly attendant upon functional and organic disease of the womanly organs. It induces re? freshing sleep and relieves mental anxi? ety and despondency. No woman suffering from any of the above symptoms can afford to accept any secret nostrum or medicine of vn hnoton composition, as a substitute for a medicine like Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription, which is OF KNOWN COM? POSITION and has a record of over forty years of cures and sells more largely to-day than ever before. Its makers withhold no secrets from their patients, believing open publicity to be the very best guaranty of merit. Dr. Pierce invites all suffering women to consult him. by letter free of charge. All letters of consultation are held as strictly private and sacredly confiden? tial and all answers %re returned in plain, sealed envelopes. Address: Dr. K. V.
