OFFENDED HIS FRIENDS. ISegroes Get Furious Over thc Posi ~tk>n Taken by the President in the Matter of the Discharge of- the 25th Infantry. Boston, Dec. 20.-The negroes here are furious over President Roose? velt's message justifying the dis? charge of the negro troops. The Suffrage League met hastily as soon as the message had been made pub? lic and adopted resolutions to be ??ent to all negro organizations throughout the eountry denouncing the president as the instigator of race hatred and mob violence. In the res? olution they call him a tyrant, and say he is "not the friend he poses to be by the mere handing out to the colored race of a few paltry loaves and fishes, thereby showing himself to be a mere politician and not a gTeat statesman." . \_ If it be true, as claimed, that there are 1,200 Mormons in South Carolina that fact simply shows that the meth? od of opposition to propogation of that faith has not been effective. A religious belief, whether right or "wrong, is peculiar in that it thrives upon persecution and denunciation.- t Columbia Record.
