Sk ?itirra M?s jsentjraiit. WEDNESDAY; JUNE 24, 1896. BENJY, COME HO?LK. From the Johnston Monitor. Wanted : An adaptation of an old song. Oar poetic powers are nil, so we can only propose this modification of the first line; "Benjy, dear Benjy, come home to cs now." -The State. What's toe matter with this: Be?jy, dear Benjy, come home to us now. The people ali say you must come ; There's a problem to soire that ii greater by far Than silver at sixteea to one. 'Tis a question of booda and a question .? of "com's" That reformers and antis alike, Would have you to soire, thea m-ike this resolve, And come with the speed of a bike. Come home, come home, come home, Dear Benjy, our Benjy, come home, 0, who could resist this most plaintive appeal, Dear Benjy, our Benjy, come home. Come tell us bf checks-bow the -'divy" wa9 made If, indeed, there was a combine And who received this, the other and which The "twenty five," "fourteen" and "nine." Come Bsojf at once, indeed you shoald come, Don't say that you can't, for you must, Come tell us the thiags we are dying to know. Come quickly or else we may "bust." Come home, come home, &c. Protest from the Powers. The Sultan Warned to Stop - Turkish Atrocities in Cret?. i - Berlin, June 14.-Under an ar? rangement with the other ambassa? dors to the porte, Baron Saurma vou Jelt8ch, the German ambassador at . Constantinople, obtained an audience with the sultan on Friday last and read to his majesty a note warning Turkey agaiust the certainty of los? ing the good will of the powers by permitting thc continuance cf atroci? ties in Crete Subsequently the Austrian ambassador, Baron de Cal? ice, obtained an interview with the sultan and emphasised the views which had been expressed by the German ambassador. v The Berlin newspapers on Satur? day published a report that the pow? ers had sent a collective note to the porte, which" probably had reference to the less formal communication read to the sultan by Baron Saurma von Je?8ch on Friday. The separate interview with the sultan by Baron de Calice was due to the fact that he was obliged to make special representations bearing upon the in? terests of Austria which are involved in the" Macedonian question, which is becoming acute The Macedonian committee, which is sitting in SoGa, Bulgaria, has de? cided to make a demand for the au? tonomy of Macedonia and are practi cally couspinng to bring about an insurrection. It was therefore be? lieved here that Austria has asked the sultan to consent to the occupation of Macedonia by Austrian troops in event of an uprising there. In con? nection with this belief, it may be noted that M. De Calay, Austrian minister of finance, in speaking upou the Austrian budget in the reichsrath on Friday, claimed that Austria Hungary had become a Balkan pow? er since the empire had acquired Bosnia and therefore had a right to interfere in the Balkan peninsula M. de Calay,, the course of his re marks, hinted at plans, without openly mentioning them, which had been discussed at St Petersburg for confederation of the Balkan states under Russia's protectorate and said in connection therewith the prince of Montengero and the king of Servia were expected to hold a conference with Prince Ferdinand of Bulgaria at Sofia at the end of the present mouth. The physical ailments of the suitan are among the factors which caused the present diplomatic ferment and the representations of the German ambasador ito Turkey are aimed at the immediate practical action in Crete, assisting the kaiser's policy of keep ing the peace of Europe. Simulta? neously with this move on the part of Germany, Russia has urged the Bulgarian government to put a stop at any cost to the armed bands raised by the Macedonian commit? tee crossing the frontier and has ask ed the Greek goverment to prohibit the sending of men and munitions of war from Greece into Crete. - - i * t i wm* The Discovery Saved His Life. Mr. G. Caillouette, Druggist, Be?versvi?le, III., says: "To Dr. King's New Discovery ij owe my life. Was taken with La Grippe and J tried all the physicians for miles about, but of BO avail and was given up and told I could ? not live. Having Dr. King's New Discovery in my Store I sent for a bottle and began its I use and frctn thc first dose began to get better, j and after using three bottles was up ?iud ; about again. With careful rotation of crops and liberal fertilizations, cotton lands will improve. The application of a proper ferti? lizer containing sufficient Pot ash often makes the difference between a profitable crop and failure. Use fertilizers contain? ing not less than 3 to 4% Actual Potash. Kainit is a complete specific against "Rust." Our pamphlets are not advertisinpr circulars boom? ing special fertilizers, but arc practical works, contain? ing: the results of latest experiments in this line. Every cotton farmer should have a copy. They are sent free for the asking;. GERMAN KALI WORKS, 93 Nassau St., New York. Atlantic Coast Line. WILMINGTON. COLUMBIA AND AUGUS TA RAILROAD.
