Insurance in the South. The Haleigh Chamber of Commerce Will Hot Stand the Halse in Hates. RALEIGH, N*- C., September 10. Some mon tba ago the Southeastern Tariff Association greatly increased the rates of insurance on property in this city, Charlotte, N. C., and other Southern cities, the increase in some cases amounting to 100 per cent. As there was no apparent good reason for such increase, especially so far as Raleigh was con? cerned, a loud protest was made by the property owners. The chief of the fire department here investigated the matter at the instance of the chamber of com? merce, and it was fully demonstrated that tlie net profits of the tariff association companies for several years had been unusually large, and the secretary of the chamber of com? merce was instructed to enter into negotiations with companies outside the association to induce them to enter this field He has succeeded in inducing a good Boston company to take a great deal of the insurance at the old rates and other companies are expected to assume some of the risks at the former rates. Now the local agents of the tariff association companies are earnestly appealing to the companies to restore the old rates before it is too late, assuring them that unless they do so they will lose nearly all their business in this and the other cities affected.-From the New York Evening Post. -In Poor ii Health \. means so much more than ^you imagine-serious and ^ fetal diseases result from ^ trifling ailments neglected. ^ Don't play with Nature's greatest gift-health.
