X 'i i | MOONSHINERS FORM UNION ??? Georgia and Alabama Distillers Fix Price of "Mountain Dew". Washington. March 30.?The prohibition commissioner's office here has received word from Atlanta headquarters of the formation of a moonshiner's Union, or trust, in the mounj tain districts of Georgia and Alabama. There are several objects in forming i the union. The first of these is to protect the outlaws from raids by ofj ncers by paying good money for protection. The second purpose is to regulate the price of moonshine liquor. . The price is fixed by a committee, communicated to all the members of ! the union?and each member is obligatI to sell no liquor below the fixed price I of S20 per gallon at the still. Details of the organization were seI cured by the Atlanta officers when 'a trap was set and the trigger sprung a few days ago on a representative of the Moonshiner's Union, or organization. who attempted to bribe an officer of the law. This moonshiner, * * ' 4.: 4. _ alter having Deeome intimate wim the head of a raiding squad of deputies out in the mountains, offered him $500 in cash for the protection that the moonshiners of the three counties desired. His proposition was that for the consideration the officer was to keep his raiders out of the counties and to notify him if deputies from any other district contemplated a raid into that territory. This briber represented himself as head and field manager of the moonshiners' organization and claimed to have plenty of money to pay for the protection needed. He was tempted to make a trip to Atlanta, and while there had a conference with the officer in a room at a hotel. However, before the conference was arranged the room was supplied with a dictograph and two more officers were hidden in an adjoining room. During the c'onference the agent of the moonshiners renewed his offer and produced the money. The officer agreed to be bribed and the money was passed over. Then a connecting door was opened and the moonshiner was placed under arrest. Evidence in the dictograph convicts the briber, and also very minutely explains the location of stills out in the mountains. The machine also contains ^evidence of the Moonshiners'vUnion or combination. o gf Chinese Trade. Foochow branch of the Amerl* ' can Association of China was recently formed. The new organization will largely care for American commercial Interests, which are rapidly expand! ing In the Foochow consular district, I j and will take the place of an Amerli can chamber of commerce, the num[ ber of local Americans-being too small j i to support a chamber of .commerce. * NOTICE TO CREDITORS DISTRICT COURT OF THE UNITED Eastern District of South Carolina In the matter of F.
