Mary Bradley, a colored woman, was found dead at her home on Mr John Nelson's place Monday morning. Mr J Heyward Scott received an| appointment in the ambulance corps | being organized by Dr Wyman of j Aiken for service in France, and left | Tuesday for the training camp at | Allentown, Pa, where the South Carolina boys are being trained for duty in this branch of the service. After a few weeks' training the corps will be sent to France. It is probable that this will be the first South Carolina army unit to leave for Europe. The registration books of the town of Kingstree are now open for the registration of voters at the municipal election to oe held in September, ? t* A 1 .I at wmcn time a mayor,six Aiaermen and one Public Service Commissioner will be elected. Mr C C Burgess is registrar and will be found at the store of the Kingstree Hardware Co. It is incumbent upon every voter in this election to register, as old certificates will be no good. Mr A M Gordon had a family reunion Thursday, at which were pressent his seven daughters, three sons, two sons-in-law and three grandchildren, as follows: Mr and Mrs S K Brockington, son and daughter of' Florence, Mr and Mrs J G Ellis and daughter of Gillisonville,Misses Martha, Pauline, Margaret, Emma and Lizzie Gordon and Messrs A M, Jr, Ervin and William Gordon. The entire family spent the evening with relatives at Lanes. Red Cross boosters are hustling, and it is believed that the local clubs here have succeeded in raising about $1,500 of the $3,000 allotted Williamsburg county. A massmeeting of Kingstree's business and professional men was held at the courthouse Friday night, when a Boosters' club was organized for j the ^purpose of boosting Kingstree and Kingstree's cotton and tobacco markers. The new organization is composed of the business and pro-1 fessional men of the town, who hope ! to make it the best market in this I section. A booster trip through Williamsburg county in the interest of the King9tree tobacco market, similar to that taken severe] years ago, was practically decided upon, and E L Morgan, Thos Kellahi-.n and W E Jenkinson were selected to arrange for the trip, which will be made within the next two weeks. Those present pledged the use of their automobiles in which to make the trip, and about $150 was raised by public subscription to be used in boosting the market. The quastion of better roads was discussed at length and a committee composed of Messrs P G Gourdin, H 0 Britton and R B Smith was delegated to confer with the Road Engineer,the Supervisor and the County Commissioners with this end in view. Messrs F Earle Bradham, David Silverman and W C Claiborne were ' elected a publicity committee and are expected to keep the tobacco J growers posted on the merits of the Kingstree market. They were also authorized to get up among the J business men prizes which will be ( awarded the farmers who sell tobac co here on the opening aay. Home Guard Organized Here. An enthusiastic meeting of Kingstree citizens was held in the court house Tuesday night, which resulted in the preliminary organization of a body of home guards. Mr P G Gourdin was called to the chair,and committees were appointed to ascertain , the requirements of the national ^ government for such military organ- < izalions, and to solicit the services of one familiar therewith to address , the next meeting of the members, to be held Tuesday night, 26th inst. An interesting canning demonstration was held on the Court House green Monday afternoon by Miss Amanda Edwards,county demonstration agent. The tomatoes used at the demonstration were picked from the garden of Prof J W Swittenberg, who vies with Mr W EJenkinson,another of Kingstree'sintensive gardeners, in producing first ripe tomatoes. Mrs Mills, wife of Mr S W Mills, died suddenly at the home of her daughter,Mrs Julia McCutchen.about six miles east of town, about 10:30 o'clock Tuesday night, death being due to heart disease. Mrs Mills was attending the wedding of Miss Annie McCutchen to Mr H Olin Welch, and it is surmised that the end came as a result of the excitement incident to the marriage. The deceased was about 60 years of age and was one of the most highly esteemed ladies in the county. She is survived by her husband and five children, Mr R D Mills, bookkeeper in the Bank of Kingstree; Mrs J N Prince of Mount Tabor, N C; Mrs Julia McCutchen and Mrs L P Epps, both of whom live near town, and an unmarried daughter. Her son had just returned to Kingstree when he was summoned by phone message to return. Funeral services took place yesterday afternoon, and interment was made in Williamsburg cemetery.
