The many Kingstree friends of Mrs J F Lightsey of Fairfax will regret to learn that she is under treatment at a Columbia hospital. Miss Lyllian Alsbrook left Tuesday for Marion, where she has been engaged by the Joyce syndicate who is conducting a contest for the Marion Star. Mr J C Kellahan, formerly of Alvin, was in town Friday and called at our office to have his paper sent to Georgetown, he having changed his residence to Pawley's Island. Master W Lei and Taylor, Jr, entertained a number of his little friends Saturday afternoon in celebration of his seventh birthday. The game of pinning the donkey's tail,an amusement ever dear to childish hearts, was played, Miss Mildred Miller winning the prize. Souvenirs were presented to each guest, and a jolly good good time was had. Delicious refreshments were served. Born Monday, February 26, to Mr and Mrs J Y McGill, a bouncing son. "The population of Uedar Swamp is on the increase," as our good friend, G Ollie Epps, expressed it, at the same time incidentally, however, informing us that he has an addition to his family?a fine little daughter, about three weeks old. Well, old cedar swamp has been noted these many years for its productiveness. The Booklovers* club was delightfully entertained Thursday afternoon by Mesdames W L Taylor and Belle Blakely at the home of the latter. She 0, was married to Mr Epps Thursday, w December 21, 1893, and from their gj ufiion nine children were born, viz: ^ six daughters, Misses Irene. Louise, ^ Elizabeth, Pattie, Addie and an in- g fant three weeks old,and three sons. David,a student at Davidson college. Davidson, N C, Roy and Nevelin, all v' of whom survive her, Mrs Epps was a devoted wife and mother and was never happier than when her husband and children and others dear ^ to her heart were gathered about her in the home she loved so well and made so cheerful, bright and hospitable to all who entered its g doors. She was a lady of exceptional at- m tainments, being noted and loveAior T her charming personality, kind, amiable and affectionate disposition and beautiful Christian character, and it can truly be said of her that she f( greeted the trials and burdens of life c with a gracious smile under any and all circumstances. g( In addition to her immediate fam ily the deceased is survived by her aged mother, one brether, Mr L D Burgess, of this place, and three sis- gi ters, Mrs Worsham of Conway, and c< Misses Ila and Fannie Burgess of ~ Kingstree, besides a large circle of r other relatives. C JThe funeral took place Monday I* afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Presbyterian church, of which she was a u; devout member. The pastor. Rev P s< S McChesney, officiated. After the ^ service at the church the body was taken to the old Williamsburg ceme- ^ tery, followed by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, q There it was laid to rest. The grave fj was filled and the newly made mound l'1 covered with beautiful floral designs, ^ la9t tributes from those who knew 5 and loved her in life. The deepest sympathy is felt for the grief-stricken husband, children r and other members of the home, ct wherein the noble influence of the ? devoted daughter; wife, mother, . sister and friend were as a halo of beauty and glory always.
