A community is judg s ed by the words and the acts of its people, and we of this commuinty are j judged by others in like manner. If ? the hearts of our people are warm ed by the fires of- "comradeship and j brotherly love our acts will be in j accord with our feelings, and the world will know us as a community 4 of honor and integrity, as a people with a soul, as a place worthy of a future. But if we loose the flood gates of criticism and abuse and bei little the community and its people, then in time we will descend to a . level which we create for ourselves, and the world will know us as a people whom it is well to let alone. Every day we are adding rungs ? to the community ladder, but are ? they going up?or down?. Speak a good word, brother?and help your town. ^ Grand Jury Presentment. lm Kingstree, S C, June 22, 1915. We recommend that the Grand Jury room be provided with a small " table for the use of the foreman be5 fore the next term of court. We wish to report that we have acted on all matters brought to our y attention by the Solicitor and others, i] with the exception of the anonymous letter presented to us, and this we will thoroughly investigate, though we fail to appreciate much merit :n r any anonymous communication, e We have passed on twenty-two in;t dictments and have found true bills e in all but one. This bill we failed to find evidence to sustain, after exam^ ining each witness provided. We recommend that the rural poll lice, magistrates, constables and all 11 good citizens be urged to report any and each instance of damaging of our public highways by plowmen in ' turning their plows in the roads. e Great damage to our roads is thus s caused. e Our attention has been called to the condition of what is known as 1 Gapway road. That same is in very bad condition, and our Supervisor is ? requested to give it early attention, s We recommend that the County flemmissinnerfi nrnvide for the un e keep of a Ford roadster for the use of the Supervisor, the Supervisor in0 forming us that he will purchase y one of these cars at his own expense e if the county will pay for the up? keep, oil and gasoline. We believe that this arrangement will enable him to get over his work much more frequently and will be of great advantage to the county. We recommend that Magistrate McDonald be instructed to provide himself with another constable, to succeed the present incumbent, it having come to our knowledge that the present constable says he would not report a "blind tiger" if he I knew where one was, and that he does not consijJ^ that a part of his duties. For this reason we think it advisable that the magistrate provide himself with a constable who - does consider it hip duty to report 5 any and every violation of the laws. We have appointed a committee j to investigate the county offices and report at the fall term of court. Items of General Interest.
