Benson, December 2:?The people of this community and a few visitors were interested and entertained at Cedar Swamp Graded school building on the eve before Thanksgiving by a judicious selection of local tai-1 ent who displayed* rather unusual ability in presenting a high class drama that would have been very creditable to experienced performers in the Thespean art. The play, j "The Winning of Latane,"was man-: aged by Miss Pauline Watson, the accomplished and energetic principal of this school, to whose indifatigable efforts in training the apt amateurs was due the brilliant success of the occasion. The play is composed of four acts consuming about an hour and a half! in its rendition. The following per-J sons comprised the cast of characters: j Mr Graham McCullough, Miss Sadie; Snowden, Miss Maude Chandler, Mr( Isham Boykin, Mr William Mc-| Knight, Mr S Davis McGill, Mr Scott McGill, Mr Thomas Chandler, Miss Pauline Watson, Mr Thad McCullough, Masters Emory McGill J and Jimmie McCrea. i After the entertainment delight- j ful refreshments were charmingly i served by the ladies. Each person paid |! just to the extent of his own and; his lady friend's desire to partake;! of the dainties they choose to eat.; The money made went to the benefit i of the school, and while the sum < realized was not so much as it might have been, were it not for the stringency of the currency, yet those i who worked for the success of the _ f i. 1- : J ! occasion ieil ampiy xtrpaiu iui men i trouble, and the ones who spent money would do so again for the j pleasure derived, besides being ever ready to aid in a worthy cause. Will you call the attention of the Kingstree Board of Trade and the business people of Kingstree in general to the fact that it is now time to see about getting tobacco see for next year's crop as they should be here by December 15. I think it would be a good idea to have a meeting of the Board of Trade some time this week. I wish to thank them for what they did towards paying for seed last season, because, if they had not helped us, we, the firm of Epps, Mcintosh & Hester, would have had to pay for a majority of the seed used. We expect to get a limited amount of seed for our customers, but we can not afford to buy them by wholesale as we have done for the past five years. I will be glad to attend a meeting of the Board of Trade at once and1 express my views as to what I think best for the tobacco situation at Kingstree.
