Watch Careful! t Mart litem Qif Highl With a Good Laxative and 1 hen Watch Their Ft;od. Mothers are often unconsciously very careless about the diet of their children, forcing all to eat the same foods. The fact is that all foods do not agree alike with different persons. iiencc, avoid what seems to constipate the child or to give it indigestion, and urge it to take more of what is quickly digested. If the child shows a tendency to constipation it should immediateiv i be given a mild laxative to help the L owels. By this is not meant a physic cr purgative, for these should never be given to children, nor anything W*T? ? 1?1 1 like salts, piils, etc. vvnat me cnnu j requires is simply a small dose of the gentlest of medicines, such as j Dr Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin, which., in the opinion of thousands of watchful mothers, is the ideal rem- i edy for any child showing: a ten- j dency to constipation. So many; thinps can happen to a constipated | child that care is necessary. Colds, j piles, headaches, sleeplessness, and 1 many other annoyances that chil- i 'ren should not have can usually be : raced to constipation. Many of America's foremost fam- j ? There comes a time in the life of all children when they begin to suspect that Santa Claus does not come to their home in a handsome sleigh drawn by a dozen reindeer decorated with holly and mistletoe and sleighbells. Before he is very old the youngster begins to suspect that this story is not literally true and he asks his parents if they don't know something about the matter. Soon; he guesses that mother and father / have mere to do with the things he finds in his stockings than the mythical Santa and he is apt to suspect that other things they have told him of will eventually prove to be similar myths. Can anyone answer the question? Is there a Santa Claus? After full investigation this department of The Constitution feels that it can safely tell the children that there really is a Santa Claus. We have studied this question to the i?* okiiitv nnd the matter JCSl UX uui uuiiiv seems to be something like this: The original Santa Claus was not exactly a man like the men we see every day. He was more like a fairy spirit, who came to this earth to see that the children should have the one day of Christmas devoted to them. Like all fairies, he couldn't handle the everyday things of life, I such as wood.paper, sugar, wool and the other things that toys are made out of, himself, so he had to find some human beings to act as his deputies in the matter. Looking around to see what kind of people would be the best and most likely to give these presents to the children as he wanted them to be given, he was seized with the happy idea that nobody understood little boys and girls quite so well as their own mothers and fathers did. So he paid a visit to the hearts (the heart, you know, is the part of a person which is easiest reached by the fairies), of all the parents in the world and organized them into a great big company to act as his agents every Christmas time. You see, he had to have a very big crowd of agents.for there are lots of children when you I Koon'n tn onunt ud all there are in j the world. Now every year he starts out some time before Christmas and again visits the hearts of all the parents in the world and whispers to them what he thinks would be a suitable present for the children un-: der their care, and then they go where he has told them to and they i get the presents and fix them up in j. the children's stockings just as Santa told them he wanted it dnne. Some children are unfortunate enough not to have any parents, and ! in their case Santa Claus goes and finds someone else to do this little job for him and see that these chil . drepVfcet what he wants them to have. It is a thing which shouldn't A i y i he Child's Diet if n p v\ " " - .... ! RALPH M. PATTEN. never without it in the house. Mrs Patten says that Syrup Pepsin has; done wondeis for her boy Ralph, I who was constipated from birth but is1 now doing fine. Naturally she is enthusiastic about it and wants other mothers to use it. Dr Caldwell's J Syrup Pepsin is sold by druggists at fifty cents and one dollar a bottle, the latter size being bought by those j who already know its value, and it contains proportionately more. Everybody likes Syrup Pepsin, as it is very pleasant to the taste. It is also mild and non-griping and j free from injurious ingredients. Families wishing to try a free j sample bottle can obtain it postpaid by addressing Dr W B Caldwell, 419 Washington St, Monticello, 111. A postal card with your name and address on it will do. be true, but nevertheless it some-, times is, that Santa is unable to find anybody who has the right kind of heart for a few of his children, but that is not his fault, and he docs his: best every year to provide for every one of them. And there is one present that he can give himself without any help from the parents or other humans and he gives this present to f Un okilrl ??An ri oil Al* i tryci^ uuc ui uic cutiui^ru, uvu vi poor, good and bad alike. It is the present of a Christmas heart for the children themselves and he gives every one of them the opportunity to let this heart grow bigger aud bigger every year, until it is big enough to act as an agent itself and go and take his presents to some other little children. And then the*boy or girl who has this heart will find that it is more fun to give the presents than it is to receive them, for it is a trick of Santa's to make everv bit of work anyone does for him a great big happiness. The parents who are acting as his agents this Christmas time will understand how this is, but of course they know all about Santa and it is unnecessary to tell them a simple little thing like that. ?Atlanta Constitution. The Birth of Our Lord and How It Was Celebrated. Dear Children: ? 1 want you to read and pay close attention to what I am going to write to you. You know Christmas will sonn he here, and you will be hanging up your stockings and looking for Santa Ciaus to come down the chimney to fill them up and then you will have all kinds of nice things to eat?candy, cakes, nuts and the like-and will be giving and receiving presents.* Now I want to talk to you about what caused us to keep Christmas and to give presents. Don't you remember that our dear Savior was given to us at that time, and then when He lay a little babe in the manger that the wise men came from a long distance to worship Him and bring Him presents? | One beautiful night as some shep-j herds were out in the fields taking care of their sheep and goats, for in that country the cattle were driven! a long distance to graze on the best | grass, al! of a sudden a bright light shone in the skies and the shepherds were very much afraid. Then the angel told them not to be afra.J.for 1 he was bringing them joyful news, | for that very night there was born ! the Saviour in the little town of! Bethlehem and they would find Him wrapped in swaddling clothes. That . I - XT' _ i 1 J? X a. 1 means mar nis motner uiu not nave i any nice things to dress Him in, but, just put on Him whatever she couldi get, for they were very poor. Is it1 not wonderful that the Lord of: I glory should choose to come among j us so poor and humble? That?must have been to teach us to be kind to I the poor, and not to look down on j people because they are poor. Then directly a great man\ angels i came and sang. "Glory to God in i the highest and on earth peace, good will towards men." Shortly after these things the wise men came to bring Him presents and kneel down and pray to Him. Now, how did these wise men know about that little baby? They were guided to His birthplace by a star which went before them until it stood still over the stable, and when tney got there they went in and knelt down and gave Him the presents they had brought for Him: gold, frankincense and myrrh. Now, the things they brought were very costly and the very best they had to give. Don't you think those wise men took a great deal of trouble to come from such a long distance just to see a humble little baby? These men were very leafned, and they knew that the birth of the Saviour was foretold by the holy prophets from the most ancient times, and they knew that He was to be born in the little town of Bethlehem, and they knew that He was coming just that way and at just that time. I want you to get your Bible and turn to Isaiah, chapter 9, verses 6 and 7, and then to Micah, chapter 5 and verse 2. The wise men stopped at Jerusalem, which is very near Bethlehem, and made inquiries as to where the baby was. They called him the King of the Jews, and that made King Herod very uneasy, for he was afraid that this little child would grow up and take his power from him. He did not know that Christ's kingdom was a spiritual ,not an earthly one. Was not that a wicked deed King Herod did? He sent out soldiers to kill all the little babies around, hoping to kill Christ among them, but Joseph, his stepfather, and Mary, his mother, carried Him away into Egypt until King Herod died. Now,if you want to do something to please Christ, give to some child rhat can't buv presents and has no one to give it anything. Be sure to keep in mind when Christmas comes that our Saviour was born 1913 years ago. and just think how the skies were bright with angels praising God. M C M. Fit His Case Exactly.
