Dll lliuaj a. at.j tf Andrews, March 4:?There was a serious shooting affray just across Black river near Warr's Crossing, on the Marion branch of the G & W railroad at an early hour last Saturday morning which resulted in the killing of a white man named Logan. The facts in the case, as far as your correspondent can ascertain them, seem to he that Mr Julius Cumbie and Mr L?-gan were broth- j ers-in-law and that Mr Logan had j abused his wife in some way. She | left her home and went to her bro-, ther's (Mr (Jumbie) lor protection. i Mr Logan followed her there in an ! intoxicated condition before daylight last Friday and entered Mr Cumbie's premises, making some threats. He was ordered not to enter the house and was shot in attempting to do so. The dead man bore a rather bad reputation in that community. Mr Cumbie is generally known in his neighborhood as a very peaceable and inoffensive man and has never^been known to be in trouble with any one. He was born and raised in this community. The matter is deeply regrettted here. The general opinion of the people seems to be that Mr Cumbie is not to blame for the awful deed. It ap-1 r*?nrs that drinkinc on the Dart of I the unfortunate man who lost his life was the primary cause of the whole thing. The above facts are all that can be obtained at this writing. Miss Mollie Young, the accomplished daughter of Mr D B Young, gave a box party for the benefit of St Paul's Methodist church on Saturday night, February 24. Quite a neat little sum was raised. All who attended the entertainment report having greatly enjoyed it. The writer took pleasure in the playful games that were entered into by the school children. Miss Young is noted for entertaining her guests and especially the school children. They all have the most loving respect for this charming young lady. She is a great church and school worker. The children say they would like to attend another if Miss Mollie will head the party. Little Murphy Morgan, the eldest son of F Morgan, died last Monday about noon from the effects of pneumonia. Both of Mr Morgan's sons were very ill, but the younger, we are glad to report, is gradually convalescing. Both boys were taken first with measles.follcwed by pneumonia. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community. Presiding Elder Holroyd preached I a very instructive sermon at Stj Paul's Methodist church last Sun-j day .All who heard him say it was a j powerful explanation of the Scrirture. The Methodists here seem | well pleased with both their elder and their preacher. W S C. I , TI B s | Kindly i ?
